Dear Parents, Guardians, and Students;
I hope all of you have had an enjoyable summer. My family and I had a few days at the shore to relax and rejuvenate! This year I will be an empty-nester and I am not sure what I will be doing with all that extra time on my hands!
At school the time went rather quickly! Many things were put into motion in this summer and we eagerly await the arrival of our new technology. Our RSA has purchased a projector and laptop for each of the intermediate classes. We will be excited to utilize the SMART Notebook strategies once the equipment is in place. In addition, our damaged purple sliding board will be replaced soon! In addition, several classrooms were painted. We also received new copy machines, which have features that can actually save us paper! One such feature is that all faxes will now be electronic! Please note that our fax number has changed!!
Our most exciting changes this summer includes staff. Mrs. Kathy Coyle, our secretary retired July 31st after 29 years of service! While we will miss her, our staff welcomes Judy Barwis, also an experienced secretary in our district! At the end of the school year, it looked like we would lose one section of Kindergarten. However, with late kindergarten enrollments, we are pleased to welcome Ms. Meghan Grissell to the PM kindergarten class. Ms. Grissell served as one of our first grade teachers last year.
This year, Richboro Elementary will be changing its lunch/recess schedule to a recess first and then lunch schedule. This aligns more closely with the philosophy of the Responsive Classroom, with research showing that it is more beneficial or students. More information will be shared at a future RSA meeting.
During the first few days of school, you will be receiving a great deal of important information. I ask that you pay close attention to the attendance letter signed by Mr. Barry Desko. The letter outlines the district attendance policy (#204) which we adhere to closely. This and other district policies can be found on the district website at www.crsd.org. Please be sure to review our student handbook and code of conduct, as the latter has changed. Please be diligent in submitting emergency and health information so we are prepared to respond appropriately.
As you know, Council Rock School District is focusing on “Going Green”. As a result all important information regarding classroom activities and supply lists can now be found on the teacher websites. A majority of communication from school will occur electronically, through the e-Friday older (found on our webpage), my list serve messages, the RSA list serve, and by accessing the school calendar on our website. To receive information from either the schools or RSA’s list serve, you must subscribe to each separately. In addition, the district will continue to use it’s emergency calling system. Richboro Elementary is working on creating it’s own Global Connect distribution groups. We will be sending a test phone message as soon it is programmed later this fall.
To help with transition, Kindergarten Orientation and Orientation for New Students to Richboro Elementary School will be held on August 28th. Please check the website for the actual times for the visit. We look meeting all our new students on Thursday!
A special thanks to Mr. Barwis, Mr. Harron, and the Aramark staff and teachers for their help in preparing the building for the new school year!
