Human Services Council Meeting

The Human Services Council of Indiana County will be meeting on Thursday, June 9th at 8:30 am at Beacon Ridge, Wayne Ave. Indiana. The Community Connections Committee will be hosting and have arranged for a panel of speakers from the faith-based community. The speakers will be sharing outreach programs their entity offers. The presentation will run from 8:45 am to approximately 10:00 am with the following speakers: Rev. Bruce Shannon of the Presbyterian Church of Marion; Doris McAnulty, Pastor’s Administrative Assistant from Grace United Methodist Church, Indiana; Jim Froeilicher, from the St. Vincent DePaul Store in Indiana; and a representative from Catholic Charities(to be named later). Agency Directors and staff are welcome. Bring copies of your agency/organization brochures to share. We will have a table set up for the brochures. Indiana County Humane Society 10th Annual Flea Market

The Indiana County Humane Society will be holding the 10th Annual Flea Market on June 10 and June 11, 2011 from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM and June 12, 2011 from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM (“Box Day”). This event will take place at the Indiana County Fairgrounds. Donations are being accepted at the fairgrounds Sportsmen’s Building beginning June 1. Golf Invitational

The accessAbilities Foundation will host a Golf Invitational at Ligonier Country Club on Friday, June 10. All proceeds benefit accessAbilities’ programs and services for individuals with disabilities. 2nd Annual RONIN Lupus Awareness Ride & Cookout

The Lupus Foundation of PA will be sponsoring the 2nd Annual RONIN Lupus Awareness Ride & Cookout on Saturday, June 11, 2011 in Highland Park, Lake Drive in the Rhododendron Shelter from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. This is a benefit motorcycle ride for the Lupus Foundation. This is a family and community event and there will be refreshments and also activities for children. Jimmy Stewart Airport/Museum Festival 2011

Saturday and Sunday June 11th and 12th will see Indiana come alive with the annual Jimmy Stewart Airport- Museum Festival. An extensive range of activities have been planned for the Jimmy Stewart Airport, Downtown Indiana and the Jimmy Stewart Museum.

Activities on both days will begin at 10 am and conclude at 4 pm. A FREE shuttle service will be provided by the Indiana County Tourist Bureau between the Airport and the Museum throughout the day.

Activities at the Airport include, at 8 am, a Pancake Breakfast both days; static aviation displays, a variety of plane rides ( fee) ; the EAA Young Eagles; aerial demonstrations; WW ll re-enactors; Airport tours and hay rides; and on Saturday night only: The Keystone Wing Air Force Hanger Dance (fee).

Activities at the Museum include: On Saturday, The Punxsutawney Antique Auto Club display of cars, and on Sunday, a display of Indiana County Emergency Vehicles, both along Philadelphia Street, which will be closed for the two day event. Also along Philadelphia Street, The Arts and Crafts Marketplace with over 27 vendors. Displays and hands-on activities presented by the Penns Wood Boy Scout Council on the Courthouse lawn. And, on the Music Stage, located at the 9th Street intersection with Philadelphia Street, a range of Music groups and performers throughout the day, both days. A number of great food vendors will also be on hand for the event. The Jimmy Stewart Museum will be open, with films, displays; and featuring two special exhibits: “918” on the Stewart family home in Beverly Hills; and “Happy Birthday, Jimmy” a photo essay on Mr. Stewart’s return to Indiana for his 75th birthday. New Story Summer Program 2011

The New Story Summer Therapeutic Activities Programs are run and supervised by staff who have additional training and / or certification in Applied Behavioral Analysis. New Story provides a highly intensive and therapeutic socialization program with consistency and structure throughout the day and camps are for children, ages 5 to 18, with a diagnosis of autism, PDD, Asperger’s, or other developmental disability. Father’s Day Breakfast

Take your favorite guy out for breakfast! Aging Services, Inc. will be hosting a Father’s Day Breakfast on Thursday, June 16, 2011 from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM at the Saltsburg Social Center, located at 212 Point Street, Saltsburg. Breakfast includes pancakes, eggs, bacon and toast for only $2.50! This event is open to the public and reservations are not necessary.

Community Guidance Center’s Summer Treatment Program (STP) 2011

The Summer Treatment Program provides a highly structured setting in which children develop problem-solving skills, develop the ability to follow through with instructions and improve social skills and self-esteem. The Summer Treatment Program is being held at 3 area locations for children ages 5 to 15, with a diagnosis of ADHD or another behavioral disorder. The program runs from June 20th to August 12th, 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM at the Indiana and Dubois site and 8:30 AM to 2:30 PM at the Dayton Elementary site. Meet The Grantmakers

Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh'sFoundation Center and Grantmakers of Western Pennsylvania present "Meet the Grantmakers" onWednesday, June 22, 2011 at the Regional Enterprise Tower, 31st Floor from 3:00 PM - 4:30 PM. This program will provide an opportunity for grantseekers to enrich their understanding of funding support from our region’s private foundation community. Representatives from several local foundations with strong family leadership will provide an overview of their initiatives, briefly describing their giving priorities, types of grants, application guidelines, how and when grantmaking decisions are made, and other details. A question and answer session will follow. The panelists include:Tony Macklin, Executive Director, Roy A. Hunt Foundation;Chris Smith, Executive Director, Weiner Family Foundation; andEric Stoller, Program Officer, Heinz Endowments. FORE the Kids

A Four-Man Scramble Golf Tournament will be held June 25, 2011 at Indian Springs Golf and Country Club, located at 824 Indian Springs Road, Indiana. Registration starts at 11:00 AM and Tee-Off is at 1:00 PM. The cost is $200 per team. The proceeds from this event will Benefit Evergreen Boys & Girls Club’s Keystone Club.

Hopeful Hearts Golf Tournament

Hopeful Hearts invites you to a Golf Tournament at the Indiana Country Club on Monday, June 27, 2011. Registration begins at 11:00 AM and a Shotgun Start at 12:30 PM. The entry fee is $150 per person and that includes 18 holds of golf and a cart, a cookout at lunch and dinner, beer, soda, or water, a custom score card and a course description and maps. Plenty of prizes and gift bags and a Hole in One wins a car! Indiana County District Attorney, Tom Bianco will be the dinner guest speaker. Women Veteran Conference: Exploring Your Pink Soul

PACareerLink-Indiana County is excited to invite you to attend our Women Veteran Conference: Exploring Your Pink Soul on July 8, 2011 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM in the Dining Room at Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 1989, located at 824 Indian Springs Road, Indiana. The focus of the event is to connect women veterans, area healthcare providers and VA healthcare providers. We hope to increase understanding of the healthcare options available to women veterans and the process for obtaining proper medical care inside and outside the VA healthcare system. 2011 Grant Application Announcement

United Way of Indiana County is pleased to announce that funding is available through its grant program for eligible 501c(3) organizations that demonstrate a solid programmatic plan for meeting critical human service needs in Indiana County. Applications may be obtained by contacting the United Way Office at 724-463-0277. The deadline for applications is July 29, 2011. United Way provided 10 grants in 2010 with an average grant amount of $1,264. These grants were utilized for services that included health initiatives, literacy programming, asset building, building parenting skills, Veterans support, and back to school programming.

You Don’t Have to Deal with a Layoff or Closing Alone

To make employers more aware of the benefits, the Indiana County Department of Human Services has partnered with the Department of Labor & Industry’s Rapid Response Coordination Services (RRCS) to share information available to employers, labor organizations and the workforce which can help your business and help workers find new jobs or receive training for new careers. Temporary Address

Due to significant facility issues (leaking roof, damaged walls, ceilings and carpets, etc.), the Office of Planning & Development will be temporarily relocating to Townplace Victoria, 699 Philadelphia Street, Suite 200-A, Indiana. The best way to access the temporary offices is to enter the building through the Atrium, either use the steps or elevator to the second floor, proceed up the ramp (technically above the Finery), first door on the left. If you find anyone looking for us, please send them our way! We will have the same phone and fax numbers, although we will have access to less than half of the actual phones that we have now, so when calling, it may go to voice mail more often.

Welfare to Work Transportation Program

ICCAP has funds available to help individuals obtain reliable transportation in order to get back and forth to employment. The Welfare to Work Transportation Program can help individuals who are employed, have a child under age 18 and income qualify (for example, a family of four may have an income no greater than $4,377 a month). It can help financially with vehicle repairs or auto insurance payments. Please contact Mary Ann Buterbaugh at ICCAP at 724-465-2657.
