Logging on to SFX Moodle for the first time

If you have not used a college computer before, your username is the first part of your email address (before the @) and your password is your ID number beginning 300..... for example:-

Username: smithj1456

Password: 3002789

The web address for moodle is You can also find it easily by doing a Google search for SFX Moodle or by clicking on the link on the college website PLEASE NOTE, YOU CAN ACCESS MOODLE FROM OUTSIDE COLLEGE!

Log onto Moodle using your network login (it will always be the same!). You will then have to enter your STUDENT E-MAIL in your user profile (PLEASE NOTE, IT MUST BE YOUR STUDENT e-MAIL, NOT YOUR PRIVATE e-MAIL). Scroll to the bottom of the page to ‘update profile’. Click on the message saying you must go to your e-mail to confirm your Moodle account.

You must now go to your student e-mail address to confirm your account. To do this click on SFX on the breadcrumb trail at the top left side of the screen(Fig.1) to go to the SFX Moodle home page.

Then click on the link to the student e-mail (fig. 2)

  • You will then have to enter your full student e-mail address followed by your student ID number beginning 300...... PLEASE NOTE, IT IS IMPORTANT YOU ENTER YOUR STUDENT E-MAIL EXACTLY AS IT IS ON YOUR ID CARD.
  • You may find a message will come up saying ‘webpage will not display’. If this happens, refresh the page.
  • There will be a message to change the GMT time which you can ignore, then click on the orange button to continue.
  • You will have to click on a button saying you accept the conditions of use.
  • You will then come to your in-box in your student e-mail and there should be a message from Moodle. Click on the link in the message. This will confirm your account and you will be taken back to your Moodle profile.
  • Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on ‘update your profile’ again.
  • You will then get the option to change your password, which you can do if you like. PLEASE NOTE, YOUR NETWORK PASSWORD WILL ALWAYS BE THE SAME.
  • Now click on SFX on the breadcrumb trail (see fig.1) and you will be returned to the Moodle home page.

You are now ready to enrol on your course units.

Click on ‘All courses’ in the ‘course categories’ box (fig. 3)

You will see the directory of all the course categories. Select the main category (eg AS Biology, BETC Extended Diploma in Business Year 1, GCSE Mathematics), then click on the unit titles (NOTon the names of your teachers listed under the titles). See fig.4.

NB You may have to enter an enrolment key, which your teacher will give you. You will only need this the first time you enrol on a unit.

After you have enrolled on your first unit, you can then find your other units to repeat the process, by clicking on ‘all courses’ in the ‘My courses’ box (Fig. 5).

Repeat the process until you have signed up to all your units.
