MINUTES OF THE DOWNTOWN CITIZENS ADVISORY PANEL
- Welcome-The meeting was called to order by Regina Zara at 4:05 p.m.
- Consideration of the Minutes from 8-10-2015 Meeting- JoAnn Boettchermotioned to approve the minutes, seconded by Barbara Russell. All members present approved the motion; all who were absent at the last meeting abstained. Regina Zara noted that the minutes to the July 27, 2015 meeting needed to be amended to reflect that the minutes were approved for the July 13, 2015 meeting. JoAnn Boettcher motioned, seconded by Peter Lambert. All members present approved the motion.
- Correspondence: None at this time
- Guest Speaker: Regina Zara introduced Diana Cherryholmes, Suffolk County Film and Cultural Affairs Film Commissioner and Erin Reyes, Cultural Affairs Coordinator. Diana spoke to the Panel about film making on Long Island and the Suffolk County Film Commission. Cherryholmes also gave an overview of grant programs offered for Cultural programs through Suffolk County.
- Old Business:
- Regina Zara announced that the Downtown Revitalization Round 13 funding recommendations will be presented to the Economic Development committee of the Legislature on September 30th and submitted to the Legislature for approval on October 6th.
- Zara directed the Panel to the tentative itinerary for the upcoming tour of Wyandanch and an overview of the Wyandanch development. A final itinerary will follow.
- Zara gave a brief report on the recently held Suffolk County Marathon. She said that it was very successful and raised $160,000 that will go toward Veterans Services. There is a plan to hold the marathon annually.
- New Business: Zara suggested changing the Round 14 application timeline to provide more time for the Panel to review applications and to have more time for all the approvals required. She will present it to the Panel at a future meeting. She also suggested changing the meeting location to the Media Room on the lower level so there would be more room for everyone especially during application review time.
- Give and Take: Panel members suggested moving the December meeting up to December 7th. Zara will look at the County schedule and confirm. Suggested tours for the December meeting are Rocky Point, Sayville and Bellport.
