About the Peer Support Specialist Position:
The position is for Windham County. The Peer Support Specialist is an individual who has lived experience in the recovery process from substance use or mental health. The Peer Specialist will be able to provide support to an individual who is seeking help in establishing or maintaining his or her recovery. The services provided will be face to face interactions with some phone support.
Applicants must be willing to disclose their status of recovery in substance use or mental health and have a minimum of 2 years of recovery from Substance Use/Co-Occurring Mental Health Disorders (self-attestation), if applicable. Must communicate and write clearly, have good engagement skills, basic computer skills and a valid driver’s license. Must exhibit a significant degree of responsibility and experience working independently and/or with limited supervision. A certification of completion of Peer Support training from Advocacy Unlimited or CCAR and a high school diploma/GED is required. If the applicant does not have the certification but is willing to complete the training they can apply for a scholarship. An applicant may substitute the Peer Support training/certification with a Bachelor’s degree and 1 year related human services experience. Per diem work at $20 per hour.
About the Program
Peer to Peer Services is helping others using shared lived experience & knowledge gained from overcoming those challenges. The goal is to assist those in recovery to integrate into community life and to develop natural support systems in the community by regular exposure to recreational, spiritual & educational activities and to recovery orientated fellowship.
