Notes from Optical Layout Meeting, October 13, 2003
Also see notes from Luke Williams
Attendees: Luke Williams, Dennis Coyne, Mike Perreur-Lloyd (via phone), Betsy Bland, Doug Cook, Gari Billingsley, Janeen Romie
Dennis’s Layout sketches from 7-24-03 are at: http://www.ligo.caltech.edu/~coyne/AL/system/layout_sketches_24jul03.pdf
Larry Jones’s sketch of BSC optical table constraints is at:
http://www.ligo.caltech.edu/docs/D/D030100-00.pdf
Luke Williams’s optical layout of the Advanced LIGO input optics is at:

Janeen asked about the envelope of the mode cleaner. The structure is 15.75” x 8.66” (400mm x 220mm) but the stiffeners and their accompanying attachment screws bring it to 17.08” x 10” (434mm x 254mm). The hybrid osems stick out beyond that but in areas that do not, most likely, cause problems for the MC1 and MC2 positioning.
ACTION: Janeen will provide a top view of the mode cleaner as a max. envelope.
The HAM table will be circular or 9-sided. This determination will be made in February 2004. The circular table is 76.77” (195cm) in diameter and it circumscribes the 9-sided table.
Luke used the New Focus mounts for the steering mirrors. Dennis said that most likely the Dynamic Light Control (DLC)mirrors will be used. The footprint for the DLC mounts can be found under Ken Mailand’s name in the DCC.
ACTION: Luke will change the footprints for the steering mirrors to DLC mounts.
The MMT mirrors are baselined at 12.3” diameter (314mm) whereas the LIGO 1 LOS is 9.84” dia (250mm.) Therefore, the LIGO 1 structures would have to be radically reworked or scrapped to be used for the MMTs.
ACTION: David Reitze and David Tanner should look at whether they can live with a 250mm dia MMT2.
The outside radius of the beam coming out on the bottom of MC1 is 22.5mm and the outside radius of the beam coming out of the top of MC1 is 20.4mm. The MC beam waist is 2.114mm radius. 1ppm diameter = 5.257 x 2.114 = 11.11mm diameter beam. Mode cleaner optics are 150mm diameter x 75mm thick (5.906” dia x 2.95” thick.)
The table height difference from LIGO 1 to Advanced LIGO is 4.5” (115mm) lower.
Dennis will send his AutoCAD layout to Janeen who will update some footprints (MC, ITM/CP)
ACTION: Janeen will take RM Solidworks file and import it into the Solidworks HAM file and position the RM where Dennis has it on the layout to check for ceiling clearance.
Dennis will burn a copy of the PSI chamber drawings for Luke.
ACTION: Janeen will create a stayclear dummy 3D of the BSC chambers per Larry’s sketches.
