MEMORANDUM FOR PARTICIPATING JUNIOR ROTC UNITS

SUBJECT: Letter of Instruction (LOI)

1. General:

a. Purpose – This LOI provides information concerning the administration and operation of the annual Low Country Drill Competition to be held on 09 February 2013 at Charleston Southern University.

b. Scope – This LOI applies to all participants in the competition. All Junior ROTC advisors will ensure those attending are familiar with the contents of this letter. If there are any questions, please contact the LCDC coordinator, Chelsie Miller, at (843) 543-2799 (during business hours) or by email at .

2. Administration:

a. Location – Charleston Southern University is located at the intersection of Interstate 26 (Exit 205-B) and Highway 78 in North Charleston, South Carolina.

b. Concessions – The CSU Aerospace Club will sell hamburgers, hotdogs, chips, candy bars, and sodas throughout the day. $5 per person should adequately cover the cost of lunch; however, guests may wish to bring a little more money to purchase additional snacks or drinks. **Due to the health and safety concerns of university administrators and to prevent any liability issues, we kindly request that neither the participating schools nor their guests bring personal grills or other cookout items to the event.**

c. Fees – The $150 registration fee per school covers the cost of awards and operations. $100 of this registration fee is refundable until 22 January 2013.

d. Final Registration – Final registration and check-in takes place at the main judge’s table from 0715-0815 hours on 09 February 2013. We will make any required schedule adjustments at that time. The opening ceremonies will begin at 0830 hours and the competition will begin at 0845.

e. Weapon Security – Security of weapons is the responsibility of the schools entered in the drill competition.

f. Personal Property – Charleston Southern University or the CSU Aerospace Club do not have the means to provide storage or protection of personal items or equipment.

g. Injury and Damages – The CSU Aerospace Club, Charleston Southern University, and any associated organizations, will not be held responsible for personal injury that may occur at the drill meet or any malicious damage caused by an individual to personal or school property. The responsibility for any damages rests solely on the party or parties involved.

h. Awards – Awards are presented for first, second, and third place in each event. First place overall and the professionalism event winner will also receive trophies.
