Allergy Notice
You may have noticed the signs in the front office stating that this is a latex, peanut and tree nut-free space. Please cooperate with this request, several people on campus are allergic to latex, peanuts and or tree nuts. It’s important that they do not come into contact with latex such as balloons, peanuts and/or tree nuts which can cause anaphylaxis or a life threatening situation. In accordance with federal regulations to update and adopt Wellness Policies by June 30, 2017, the District has updated and adopted the revisions to Wellness Board Policy 5030. Busses
Our 58 bus that travels from the Highland neighborhood has arrived late a couple of times. To address these concerns, we have reported the lateness to Samtrans. Parents can bring concerns to Samtrans attention by calling their Customer Service Center (1.800.660.4287) or filling out a form online http://www.samtrans.com/about/contact.html Due to an increase in ridership on the 58 bus, after school, we are splitting students into two groups. The first group of students to board the buses will still be students in grade 6, but now we’ll add some of our 7th and 8th grade students to this group to evenly split the number of students on both busses.
Lunch Procedure Update
As you may know, we revised our lunch procedures to decrease the length of our lunch lines and to give our students more space in the lunch court area. We are happy to report these changes have had positive results. With any new changes, we invite input and adjust to make improvements. A couple improvements that we will start this week, is to move up the time for students in grades 7 and 8 to buy lunch from 11:45 to 11:40. Also, students in grades 7 and 8 that bring their lunch, can choose to sit at a white table at the beginning of the lunch (11:33). Blue tables are for 6th grade students. Additional areas that students can go during lunch with a pass include the library, Chill Zone (Thursdays and Fridays) and classrooms (teacher permission). To ensure that students are supervised at all times, if they choose to go to one of these areas, they must stay until the end of lunch.
Safety information:
We have just under 1100 students at Borel this year. As we continue to grow, for the protection and safety of all Borel students, please follow these basic practices:
· Drivers MUST yield to pedestrians crossing in a crosswalk. Keep the crosswalks unobstructed by cars to allow students to use marked crosswalks to cross the street safely. Several crosswalks are located around the campus.
· Travel under the posted speed limit when driving near/around the school.
· Use the white curbed pick-up and drop-off zones in front of the school. Do not leave your car unattended in white zones.
· Keep red zones free of cars.
· Use the alternative pick-up and drop-off area located in the back of the school on Borel Avenue.
· Do not block resident driveways, Double Park or stop your car in the middle of the street to pick-up or drop-off your child.
· Staff parking lot is for staff parking only, it is not a pick-up or drop-off area.

These are a great way to educate ourselves on pertinent issues affecting all of us, as well as a chance to meet other parents from our Borel community!

Speaking of fundraising – we have a MAJOR fundraising objective of $225,000 by October 1st! This money benefits all of the Borel programs and academics and it is withyoursupport that we can make that happen. In just one week we have raised $54,754which is 24% of our goal. If you haven’t donated please consider doing so. These funds pay for so many of the programs and activities that students love from new classroom materials toChromebooksto the Spelling Bee to instrument repair to new gym supplies. Everyone benefits so we are counting on everyone’s support.
This year the money will also be used for a canopy on the blacktop, which will provide much needed shade on hot days –and make PE much easier on rainy days! All donations are much appreciated soplease become a booster today!

Autobuses
Nuestro autobús 58 que viajan del vecindario de Highland ha llegado tarde un par de veces. Para corregir este asunto, hemos reportado la tardanza a Samtrans. Actualización de los procedimientos de Almuerzo
Como ya sabe, hemos revisado los procedimientos de almuerzo para reducir el tiempo que los estudiantes tienen que esperar en las líneas y para darles más espacio en el área de comer. Nos alegra informarles que estos cambios han tenido resultados positives. Con todo cambio nuevo, les invitamos a dar su opinión y haremos cambios para hacer mejoras. Unos de las mejoras que empezaremos esta semana, es mover las horas de de comprar almuerzo para los alumnos de 7º y 8º grado de las 11:45 a las 11:40. También, los estudiantes en 7º y 8º grado que traen su almuerzo, puede elegir sentarse en las mesas blancas al comienzo del almuerzo (11:33). Las mesas azules son para los estudiantes del 6º grado. Áreas adicionales a las que los estudiantes pueden ir durante el almuerzo con un pase, incluyen la biblioteca, Chill Zone (jueves y viernes) y las aulas (con permiso del maestro). Para asegurar que todos los estudiantes estén supervisados en todo momento, si ellos escogen ir a una de estas áreas tienen que quedarse ahí hasta el final del almuerzo. To ensure that students are supervised at all times, if they choose to go to one of these areas, they must stay until the end of lunch.
