March Program Features

Lecture, Trunk Show, Hands On Project

Hello fellow quilters. This month we have a lecture given by Cathy Corcella with a hands on project called “Grandma’s Birdhouses”.

Cathy is from Columbus, Ohio and is the sole proprietor of Ohio Star Quilt Products. She will have several of her patterns for sale during break with a 20% discount to our members.

The supplies needed for the hands on project will be a small/medium pair of scissors and a smiling face. What quilter wouldn’t smile when we are able to do a wonderful free project, hear and see a great trunk show and be eligible for door prizes and a 20% discount?

Cathy has asked that several ironing stations be set up, so if any of you can bring your irons and/or boards for us to use that would be a great help to the whole guild and much appreciated.

Please contact me at and let me know if you can help out with this.

When the Miami Valley Quilters’ Guild compensates their speakers, we do ask that nonmembers pay an entrance fee. As we have done in the past if you are not a guild member the cost is $5.00 to enjoy the lecture, hands on project and 20% discount on Cathy’s patterns/kits. We encourage you to become a member, get involved and share in the great times we have together.

I’m on my way to filling up the 2009 calendar with some awesome speakers and workshops!

In appreciation for participation.

A Note from the President

By the time of our
March meeting many of our members will have enjoyed a successful retreat at Bergamo. Others will have attended classes at the Bloomington, Indiana, quilt show. And all of us are getting quilts ready for our own quilt show, May 16 and 17,

We are encouraging every one of our members to participate in the show. All skill levels are welcome, from beginning to advanced. The public will enjoy seeing variety. We have deliberately chosen not to have a professional judge in order that nobody will feel intimidated from showing their quilts.

Please look at our website to see the schedule of our programs and workshops for the coming year. We have a really challenging year planned. Also notice the Christmas tree ornament, created by Susan Schaller, for the TWIG tree project. The ornament is really all green—even if it looks yellow on the computer. I guess you can’t trust computers!

We thank everybody that has paid their dues as this is a primary source of funds to pay the cost of running the guild.

All this we do for the love of quilting,
Ron Lundquist

2008 Quilt Show “Past, Present & Future”

Yes, it’s that time already…time really flies when we are busy. We hope you have lots of your favorite quilts to share with us for our show in May. The committee has been busy making sure we are ready to show off your entries and have a great show for the visitors.

Registration forms are online if you have a computer, and in this newsletter. We will have copies at the meetings for the next two months. Please make sure you fill them out and get them back to Carolyn Uecker. We want to tell your quilts’ stories and show them off to the public with all the correct information.

We will also have sign-up forms for jobs during the show at the meetings. Your help is needed to make sure the show is a success.

Every job is important— thank you for your help.

Quilt Show Chairperson

Quilted Tree Ornaments

As a member of TWIG 17, I am asking Miami Valley Quilters’ Guild members to make quilted Christmas tree ornaments for a designer tree that will be at the 2008 Festival of Trees/Sugarplum in November.

The guild would receive publicity for designing the ornaments on the tree and free entrance tickets to go to the Sugarplum on Saturday. The ornament size should be small, such as postcard size, and the color would need be red, green or white or a combination of these.

I will collect the ornaments monthly at the meetings. The last month that I could collect would be in September.

Thank you in advance for your support for the Dayton Children’s Medical Center Festival of Trees/Sugarplum event.
