MISSION

Asilweni Cleaning Streets is an NGO that was established in november2012. We are based in Krugersdorp and we have been operational since then. Our main aim is to have a zero tolerant society of drugs and prostitution. In realising that our community and town was now a hub of drugs and prostitution we decided to take an initiative to help clean our streets of drugs and prostitution. We would also like to see the community taking control of their own streets and making sure that their kids are not exposed to drugs and prostitution as these are done right on the streets with no shame. In our initiative we include awareness’s and campaigns on prevention, drug abuse, where to get help, identifying drugs and on who to tell in case there is a problem. We help all age groups that are affected by substance abuse and prostitution throgh counselling as well as detox programmes. We work in collaboration with Home Affairs to verify the identities of the drug dealers and prostitutes and we locate families of the girls as most of them are trafficked from different places. We also work with the missing persons sector they help us locate the families. We are also in collaboration with Crimeline ZA, Lead SA, Social Development,Missing Persons ,National Freedom Network, STOP Trafficking, Traffic, SAPS and other NGOs in the areas we working on and Westrand.

We hope to restore our community and make them safe and condusive for everybody to live in them .

VISION

Our vision as an NGO is to expand to all areas around the country that may require our help to deal with human trafficking, sex trafficking and drug trafficking. We would like to also have a rehab and skills development centre in all provinces where we can have different skills training for recovered addicts and sex workers. Most of them are rejected and may relapse so we will help them after rehab to either get work or go to school. And we would like to have these centres all over the country. We are also networking with other African states and are hoping to work closely with them to fight drugs, sex and human trafficking.. We would ensure that we have volunteers all areas and all the time helping the community if need be .

SUCCESS STORIES

Since we started operations in the westrand areas of tackling the drugs and prostitution problem we have had a lot of success in the Savewright area and surrounding areas. At present there has been 251 maximum arrests pertaining to drugs and prostitution. Through tip offs from the community some lolly houses and drug manufacturing houses were closed down.

ln March we had a successful march in demonstration of drugs and prostitution around the Savewright area and we were part of the committee that organised the march.

We were also involved in the march in Kagiso where we were sending a message to the dealers there that we are leaving no stone unturned and are intensifying our operations.

Before in Krugersdorp when you drove around the streets this is what you will see on each and every street corner. Since we started our operations these girls are scarce in the day and w instructed Saps to arrest them if they see them loitering on the streets. We are still going to arrest them if found on the streets till the streets are clean.

We have been part of the drug committee in Mogale city and we are regularly involved in raids, campaigns and awareneses in Mogale city and surrounding areas. We have managed to help some ladies and man off the streets and we use established centers for rehab and skills development as we dont have our own premises yet. We are also part of the Community Forum group that brings together different NGOs across Gauteng and have helped a lot of addicts from Westbury, Bosmont , Newclare and roodeport areas.

We will clean our streets nomater what it takes .

CHALLENGES WE ARE FACING

We need help with sponsorship for a car and a taxi that will help us transport the ladies back home aswell as our volunteers when doing campaigns. Also reqest more donors to come on board especially when it comes to the medical side of getting detox medicine for the ladies. We also need more donors that will help with toiletries and food parcels every month. In all areas we are working in we request the support of the municipalities and the businesses around to fight this battle. As we are in process of setting up rehab centers and skills development centers.

WHAT YOU CAN ASSIST WITH

You can help us spread the word out there about our programmes and also help us source funding from anybody that shares our vision. Also you can link us with other organisations out that that are willing to collaborate with us to fight drugs and prostitution and human trafficking. We also need assistance from institutes that can give skills and training in our centres and call on businesses to help by hiring these young people once they done with training

We welcome anybody that wants to work with us with open arms and we are open to ideas that you may want to share with us as we are working with people .
