447 WARD COUNCILLOR REPORT

Councillor Pollard reported that further to the visit to Middleton by members of ERYC highways department a detailed report had been prepared on the points raised about speeding traffic.

The report had only been received by the clerk that day so had not been read by members it would be examined before the next meeting. Initial reaction was that there were errors which needed discussing and a further meeting was thought necessary possible at the next Parish Council meeting.

A meeting was to be held on 14th September 2015 between Dave England (ERYC) and Johnathan Piatka (YWA) to discuss the flooding on South Street. There had been several complaints from residents of flooding on South Street on 23rd and 24th August.

Councillor Eastwood reported that the new lighting on South Street was very bright and Councillor Pollard agreed to look into the matter.

448 CORRESPONDENCE (REQUIRING DECISION/ACTION)

(a) Citizen Link Portal

Due to the absence at the meeting of the resident with a suggestion for the possible use for the building, carried forward to the next meeting.

The clerk was asked to enquire about the costs involved.

(b)Defibrillator

The clerk reported that the defibrillator has been installed outside the Reading Rooms. It was agreed that a training session should be held on a Saturday morning to show residents how to use the defibrillator. Suggested that an information sheet could be printed in the newsletter.

The clerk to arrange a convenient date for the trainer.

(c)Recreation Club

There had been reports of an increase in dog fouling on the recreation field. Agreed a new sign needs erecting to replace the old sign. The clerk is currently working with the dog warden to see what signs are appropriate.

(d)Tennis club letter.

A copy of the letter to be sent in reply to the Tennis club letter had been circulated prior to the meeting.

(e)Village Green

(i) Bulbs for flower bed and village planting

An order for bulbs for the village green is been finalised. A budget of approximately £120.00 was agreed. Cllrs. Bentley, Dewar and the Parish Clerk to finalise the order.

(ii) Bushes along the railings

The bushes along the railings by the roundabout were discussed these had got rather large and some residents had complained that they obstructed the visibility when driving onto the roundabout from Station Road. Due to the type of bush they wouldn’t come back if pruned hard. Agreed by all that they should be removed and the area replanted.

(iii) Gardener

The clerk reported that Alison Wilson-Dodd was willing to undertake gardening in the village but had not agreed how she would be paid. The clerk to put an advert in the newsletter for anyone else interested.

(f) Rose bushes Front Street and Greenfield Road

The rose bushes had been pruned the previous year unfortunately the clerk reported that the briars were so well established on 2 of the bushes that hardly any of the original bush remains. Agreed by all that the one of the rose bushes in Front Street and the one on Greenfield Road should be removed. Mr Newlove to be asked to do the work.

(g) Litter complaint

A complaint had been received from a resident about litter in the village. Suggested that the litter picking group in the village should be asked to put an article in the next newsletter and give dates when the next sessions would take place.

(h) Church & Cemetery Safety Training on 30th September at 1.30

A training session had been arranged starting in the Reading Rooms at 1.30.

2 representatives from the Church, the Parish Clerk and Cllrs. Bentley, Pratt and Walker to attend.

(i) Speeding traffic

A letter had been received from ERYC prior to the meeting but there had not been time for members to review. To be discussed at next meeting.

(j) Flooding South Street

Survey results not available.

(a) Meeting with ERYC highways re speeding traffic

The meeting had been productive and a report had been received with suggestions this would be discussed at the next meeting.

(b) Quarry liaison group report

Due to the ongoing good relationship between the quarry and Middleton representatives it had been agreed at the last meeting to hold meetings 6 monthly.

(c) Parish Clerk Report

The clerk reported :-

(i) Community pay back scheme had finished doing the work at the play areas.

(ii) Superfast broadband is now available in Middleton.
