1. Patients Will Be Admitted 3 to 5 Says During Operation Of

1. Patients will be admitted 3 to 5 says during operation of

endoscopic sinus surgery.

2. After operation, patient should rest in bed with head raised

at least 20 cm or higher, and nasal ice packing at least 12

hours. During the ice packing, patient should avoid violent

movement to prevent further bleeding and to reduce pain

caused by swelling.

3. Because cotton stick is stuffed inside the nose, oral breath

may cause xerostomia. Drinking more water and gurgling

frequently is advised. Little bleeding from nostril after

operation is normal. If cotton balls outside nostrils are

wet, please replace them by yourself. Bleeding will subside

in few days.

4. There will be tearing and mild swollen pain over head during

postoperative period due to cotton balls stuffed into the

nose. These symptoms will improve soon after cotton stick is

removed.

5. Don’t take out the cotton stick inside the nose by yourself.

To prevent cotton stick from sliding out, please don’t touch

the nose. Open mouth when sneezing to prevent elevation of

nasal pressure. If cotton stick fell out, please inform

medical staffs right away.

6. Tarry stool may be found within three days after the

operation due to swallowed blood during or after the

operation. These conditions will improve gradually if no

further active bleeding. If black stool passage remains or

constipation happens, please inform medical staffs.

7. Try to avoid hot or irritating food. Don’t smoke or drink

alcohol. Don’t take a hot shower in case of nasal bleeding.

Soft food and food in relative low temperature are advised.

8. After the operation, please inform medical staffs for the

following conditions: ocular or periocular swelling, blurred

vision, fever over 38 degrees, or lots of bleeding from nose

or mouth.

9. Cotton stick will be taken out by doctor two days after the

operation. Please note as follows:

a.Do not have a heavy meal during the day of cotton stick

removal otherwise you will have nausea, vomiting or other

discomfort.

b.After cotton stick is removed, you should stay in bed with

nose ice packing for 3 hours. Mild nasal bleeding or

stuffing sensation is normal. Please don’t touch the nose.

c.If active bleeding developed from nose or oral cavity,

please inform medical staffs.

10.Please return to our patient clinics in 4-6 weeks after

operation to follow-up until the wound heals. Close follow-up

and possible local treatments are necessary steps for the

successful treatment course. It may also prevents disease

recurrence. Thus, you should follow the doctor’s appointment

periodically.

11.Please do not take any anti-platelet medication like aspirin

because it may interfere wound healing.

12.Please avoid bowing, carrying heavy stuff, or straining

during the first week after operation. These movements may

lead further nasal bleeding.

13.Avoid sneezing or coughing is not necessary if you keep mouth

open. Opening your mouth will prevent elevation of nasal

pressure that may lead to further bleeding. Patients showed

follow doctor’s permission to sneeze your nose(Probably till

7 days after operation.)

14.In order to prevent nasal crusting growing, use nasal spray

using or nasal irrigation after operation is encouraged to

keep the humidity of the nose.
