Submission Guidelines
School-University Partnerships is committed to advocating for collaborative ventures across the PreK-12 and college and university communities as vehicles for the discovery and sharing of knowledge that shapes educational best practices. Honoring the voices of both school-based and university-based educators is central to the mission of the National Association for Professional Development Schools (NAPDS), and School-University Partnerships seeks manuscripts that represent partnership across stakeholders. The journal strongly encourages submissions that reflect collaborative partnership initiatives. Submissions may focus on (but are not limited to) original school-university research designed and implemented collaboratively, descriptions of effective pedagogies and content delivery in PDS contexts, explanations of successful partnership models and structures, examples of measures of assessment and results of evaluative processes, and analyses of the professional development of all constituents involved with school- university partnerships.
Preparation for Submission
All submissions must be prepared using Word for electronic submission and adhere to the guidelines set out in the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, 6th Edition. Text should be double spaced, 12-point Times New Roman font with any tables, figures, or visual images placed after the reference section. For the purpose of blind-review, the researchers should refer to themselves as “authors” and use pseudonyms for people and places at all times. Should a manuscript be accepted, authors will have the option of replacing pseudonyms with actual names.
Form and Length
In order to accommodate multiple variations of school-university research, we encourage authors to consider one of two publication options:
Option One
Longer papers of 15-25 pages. Typically these submissions may include but are not limited to a detailed description of the purpose, relevant school-partnership literature, data collection, findings/results, implications/discussion, and conclusion. Longer papers may also focus on in-depth explanations of partnership models.
Option Two
Provides an opportunity for shorter submissions of 2-5 pages. The primary purpose of this option is to recognize the importance of context specific efforts illuminating the work of PDS practitioners. This option may include but is not limited to a successful application of a particular scheme or idea, an account of a particular teaching strategy or curricular initiative, the ways in which a particular problem or challenge was addressed, other classroom/school/partnership specific initiatives, etc.
Submission and Review Process
School-University Partnerships is published twice a year in the spring and fall. Submissions are accepted year-round and should be directed to Kristien Zenkov, Senior Editor, at . All submissions will be acknowledged by letter explaining the review process. Submissions must include the following elements:
Cover Letter
Submit a letter that includes a summary of the article, the author(s)’ affiliations and contact information, the type of article (Option 1 or Option 2) being submitted
Article Cover Page
Title of manuscript, date of submission, authors name(s) with complete mailing address, business and home/mobile phone numbers, e-mail address, and a brief biography for each author not to exceed 30 words.
Abstract/Keywords/Essentials
On a separate page at the beginning of the manuscript please describe the essence of your work in no more than 150 words (with no identifying information). Add three “key words/phrases” that describe your study. Finally, under the abstract please note which of the NAPDS “essentials” are addressed in your manuscript. Manuscript
Send e-mail correspondence with one electronic attachment of the abstract and paper featuring no identifying information and an additional electronic attachment with a cover page that identifies the author(s). Please keep an original electronic file as we do not return manuscripts.
Decisions
After each manuscript has been reviewed by three reviewers and an editorial team (see rubric available via the “SUP Review Form” link on the NAPDS website) over the course of 3-6 months, authors will be notified whether the manuscript has been accepted. Authors of accepted manuscripts will be asked to make final revisions as requested and submit an electronic copy of the final manuscript. The editors reserve the right to make editorial changes.
