Parents Code Of Conduct
Groton Soccer Club
The goal of the Groton Soccer Club, its Board, and members is to provide the children of Groton with a soccer experiencewhich is safe, fun, fair and educational. All parentsmust agreeto the Code of Conduct at registration time in order for their child to be eligible to play on any team under the auspices of the GSC.
1. I will not force my child to participate in sports.
2. I will remember that children participate in organized sports to have fun and that the game is for youth, not adults.
3. I will inform the GSC (at registration) and my child’s coach of any physical disability or ailment that may affect the safety of my child or the safety of others.
4. I will teach my child to play by the rules.
5. I (and my guests) will encourage and demonstrate good sportsmanship at games and practices.
6. I (and my guests) will not engage in unsportsmanlike conduct such as booing, taunting, refusing to shake hands or using profane language or gestures.
7. I will not question referees’ calls or coaches’ decisions during a game. If I have an issue, I will speak with coaches at an agreed upon time and place or bring my concerns to the GSC Board or one of its members.
8. I will not “coach” my child or other players during games and practices, unless I am one of the official coaches of the team.
9. I will not encourage any behavior or style of play that could injure or otherwise endanger any athletes.
10. I will respect the policies of the league. If I have a concern, I will bring it to the GSC Board or one of its members.
11. I will teach my child to resolve conflicts without hostility or violence.
12. I will demand that my child treat other players, coaches, officials, and spectators with respect regardless of race, creed, color, sex or ability.
13. I will support the position that doing one's best is more important than winning.
14. I will praise my child and the team for competing fairly and trying hard, win or lose.
15. I will never ridicule or yell at my child or other participants at a sporting event.
16. I will emphasize skill development over winning.
17. I will de-emphasize game outcomes and competition in the lower age groups.
18. I will promote the emotional and physical wellbeing of the athletes ahead of any personal desire I may have for my child to win.
19. I will demand a sports environment for my child that is free from drugs, tobacco, and alcohol, and I will refrain from their use at all youth sports events.
20.I understand my child must abide by theConnecticut Junior Soccer Association'sdress code which states a player cannot wear any form of jewelry, including ear rings due to safetyconcern's
