HIS 115 20th Century US HistorySpring 2008 / Lai

SeattleCentralCommunity College

Lab #3 (in room 3173) Wednesday, April 16, 2008

INSTRUCTIONS: You may wish to work with one other person or on your own. If working as a pair, you may turn in one write-up together. Each of you should keep a copy of your work so that your own notes are complete.

You are responsible for reading carefully and analyzing the documents in chapter 6 (as long as you didn’t do this one already) (WWI soldiers’ diaries) or 7 (flappers in the barrio – a secondary source based on primary sources). Oral history researchers, chapter 7 is strongly recommended as a possible model since you will be doing something similar: incorporating your interview (a primary source) into a research paper.

Choose chapter 6 or 7 and complete the Source Analysis Table and Analysis Questions on p. 145 or 170. The Source Analysis Tables can be downloaded from the Going to the Source’s companion website

Turn in no later than Friday, April 18 in class.

Be sure to save your work on the student network (“O”) if you are logged in under your assigned username, as a document sent to your e-mail or on a flash drive. NOTE: save your work in a format (WORD 97-2003 or 2007) that you will be able to re-open. Print to room 3173 in the lab.

PRINT CREDIT: may be added to a photo student ID in room 3148 or a print card may be purchased in the library (and print credit is added to the print card). Please arrange to have print credit so you will be able to print your writing throughout the quarter.

Use the time (50 minutes) fully! This writing will be evaluated wholistically (plus, check, minus).
