SAC Meeting Notes 2/15/2018
Mrs. Heilman made a motion to start the meeting

- Summary of previous SAC minutes were read
- Mrs. Heliman asked about new business being put into the Agenda and Minutes
- Addressing minutes at the next meeting for January and February
- Kelly makes a motion to bring the minutes to next meeting
Treasurer’s Report: 9,223.44 new report reflects this balance
- Robyn Rice made a few requests it was deducted off previous balance
- 7,423.44 current balance it was motioned and approved
Principal’s Report
- Share thoughts and prayers for the families in south florida
- Appreciate mr.forson for the email and phone call
- Working with the sheriff’s department to work on protocols-practice and continue to drill
- School’s are required to do a lock down drill : unannounced work better
- No School on Monday- was unclear about last planning day
- Dr. Seuss night- reading fun night. Thursday evening 6-7 p.m. pre-k to grade 5
- Congratulations to the basketball team. We love the growth of the team. Persistence and great attitudes. Healthy relationship between students and after school activities especially athletics.
- Reminder PTO meeting this Tuesday: Spirt Night at Sonny’s BBQ on US-1 5-8pm
- Combo meeting and dinner
- Character Counts- fun program to celebrate these kids. Character counts wall. Helps us to learn the kids names Thursday feb 22 at 9 am
- Basketball game Friday the 23 Osceola home game at Sebastian girls 5:30 boys at 6:30
- PTO movie night- thank you Desiree at 3:15- about 2 hours go right into getting a meal from Sonnys
- Adding a new pre-k classroom, posting for that position soon. Looking to hire a new teacher and para
- Braided model headstartvpk and ese model (mrs.Heilman asked)
- Hiring some tutors through our title 1 funds to help work with more of our students after school. Gearing up for FSA and Writes starts March 6.
- Grades 3-5 parents will get a note. Afternoon for these tutoring opportunities. Parents or students to help
- Mr. Jackson appreciates everyone and thanks everyone for all they do for the school.
General Business:
No general business- took general business out take it out for next month
Title 1:
Mrs. Marziani
- Family reading night march 1 6-7:30
- All pre-k-5th grade students are welcome with adult
- Stations: all parents and students travel from station to station
- Puppetry shows are designated for grade levels
- Some of the events planned: puppetry, readers theatre, crafts, read alouds, scavenger hunts, of course cotton candy shades, face painting, bingo for books in the media center- play bingo and win a book
- Encourage all families to come. Marziani sends a printed reminder home- memo will go home on Wednesday, a week in advance. All call that Wednesday for Dr. Seuss night
- Money for cotton candy? Come to the PTO meeting on the 20th- hoping that PTO will approve that expense
- Cotton candy machine 250 dollars- Mrs. Heiman asked
One more event- leader patrols are doing a community service project next week
- Collecting dog food and cat food. Which pets get the most food? The animal shelter was so thankful last year- they really appreciated the donations last year. SAFE? Or St. John’s County Shelter –Cassandra Branaum is in charge of it

Principal’s Report:
All Pro Dads: National program endorsed by tony dungee to help promote fathers to be more active in their student’s lives
- Otis mason is the only elementary school program that has it in the county
- Topic that is held every month- sons and daughters are welcome
- Scripted program: last months was reading
- This upcoming Saturday at mason (lots of parents are interested)
- Thank you for putting them in the Wednesday folder
- We would like to eventually get that running here- and eventually rotate sites
- Southwoods, Osceola, Mason, Crookshank
New Business:

Fund Request: Drama Robyn Rice
- Drama Club request: school fund need. Piano is out of tune and in really bad shape
- 85 dollars for the piano to get approved special school rate- Sperry vendor
- Drama uses it the most, student plays the piano- she takes notes and plays the piano for drama this year.
- Maybe so far stretched that we may need a new piano. Couple of missing keys- very old piano.
- Find it in the budget to try and tune it every year? –Mr.bechat approved $85 or double it for tuning just in case. Approved up to $170 for drama, Marziani second the notion
Fund Request: Mary Linekin
- Request for interactive flat panel board. Smart board. New addition in school is looking to get one in every classroom
- Flex time- teachers can bring their kids in for book check outs.
- Smart boards can be used from pre-k to fifth grade.
- Good for focusing and participation in lesson.
- 65 inch vendor is Aver- wireless smart board
- Multi touch- four children on the board working on the smart board without it freezing up
- Showed video clip of Aver CP series interactive flat panels
- Most media centers have smart boards throughout the district
- Asking for the full amount of $2,235 if SAC would approve so she can spend the 1,000 on books for the library
- Add 329 to the quote to mount the smart board 2564 is the new price for the smart board grant
- Heilman thinks that it’s a good start but we should maybe hold off for the camera later-we don’t know what else will be needed in for the 2564
- 4000 left over will roll over to next year.
- Consider education funds tend to get chopped consider what may be on the horizon in the following years

Second Grade Field Study
- Lucie Cantrell $500 for the field trip to the Jacksonville zoo
- Extended day field trip on Wednesday using school buses
- Fee is for bus fee and for 2 excursions :
- Feed the giraffes and the sting ray bay
- Leave at 9:30
- Bus pick up 4:30-5
- Back on campus at 6
- Total cost 2839.75 for the trip
- 901 for buses and the stingray bay and giraffe
- ask pto to host a movie night ask for the proceeds to go to us
- Mr Jackson 8,50 total experience for each child to be paid for sac and pto
- Tickets are 13.50 for each child- threshold would be $5 for each kid 994.50 + 550 for buses. Out of that 994.50 student difference 550 bus
- 1544 total amount
- 544 for pto
- Ask sac for 1000 but sac would cover 1544.50 and ask pto for the extra 544

New item to appoint co-chair brought in Ms. Robinson to serve as co chair to sac
- At present Mrs. Hoessler is serving as iterm sac chair- revist that and making Kelly the SAC chair
- Motioned by Mr. Jackson seconded by Krystal
- Kelly Hoessler is now the official SAC chair
- Kelly hoessler makes the motion to bring ms. Robinson as co chair Krystal second that motion

Celebrations:
- Huge Celebration from Mr. Jackson
- Mrs. Fenner will be joining the staff as the new third grade teacher
- Will be joinig us in the next few weeks
