The Project Funding Internship is a position designed to give the successful applicant experience of working for an International NGO while contributing to the development of the organisation’s fundraising. The role involves learning about the organisation’s programmes around the world and gaining experience in raising funds from grant-making organisations.

The successful applicant will work within the Project Funding Team, which has responsibility for securing grants for funding our work abroad, and occasionally work with the Director of Fundraising to research companies and write applications for funding. The Project Funding Officer will provide close mentoring and support to ensure that the successful applicant gains valuable experience within the sector and successfully develops their fundraising skills.

The role would perfectly suit a recent graduate or current post-graduate with an interest in international development, specifically in fundraising. On completion of the position help will be given with CV writing and job applications.

Key responsibilities

The work of the Project Funding Team is important within the charity and involves researching and identifying appropriate trusts and corporate foundations to approach for funding, creating application proposals and tailoring applications to specific guidelines, budgets and project areas, contacting new and existing trusts and foundations to follow up applications.

  • To become familiar with the organisation’s projects and identify potential newsources of income.
  • To assist the Project Funding Officer and Director of Fundraising in writing applications for funding.
  • To assist the Project Funding Officer in reporting to and updating donors on developments to our work.
  • To assist the Project Funding Officer in managing the organisation’s general funds appeal.
  • To assist the Project Funding Officer in maintaining records in the Raiser’s Edge fundraising database.

  • A real desire to improve the lives of vulnerable and disadvantaged children around the world.

Desirable Skills

  • A post-graduate degree in international development or related subject.
