TITLE:Enriching Kids Program Support Worker

STATUS:Fixed Termminimum 9 hours per week, until 30th June 2019

LOCATION:Based at the Wetherill Park Community Centre

EMPLOYER:The Parks Community Network Inc

FUNDING BODY:The Smith Family (Communities for Children)

SALARY:SCHADS Award negotiable depending on experience.

ACCOUNTABLE TO:The EKP Coordinator,The Parks Operations Manager, CEO of The Parks Community Network Inc.and ultimately to the Board

This position is identified as ‘child-related employment’ and shall be subject to necessary checks.

This position is identified as a child related position, and employees will need to undergo a Working with Children check. This position is subject to funding from The Smith Family (communities for Children Program).

PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION

Assist the program coordinator to engage identified primary school students (5-12 years) in group activities to improve social skills and self-esteem.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

Position title of direct Supervisor

  • This position reports directly to the Enriching Kids Program Coordinator.

  • Volunteer

  • The Smith Family
  • Nominated positions (Guidance Officers or Deputy Principals) in partner primary schools.
  • Communities for Children Fairfield community partners.
  • Other Parks Community Network Inc staff.

EXTENT OF AUTHORITY

Decisions other than day-to-day operational matters should be made in conjunction with the EKP Coordinator.

KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

1. Service Delivery

  • To assist the coordinator in the deliveryof group activities tailored for primary school-aged children (who may be vulnerable or at risk) addressing friendships, conflict resolution and emotional well-being.
  • To assist in the delivery (when possible) of family group activities to improve social and emotional wellbeing.
  • To facilitate referrals for parents / carers in need of ongoing family assistance.
  • To assist with the evaluation of the program.

2. Evaluation and Reporting

  • Provide feedback for reports on project outcomes.

3. Networks and Partnerships

  • To develop and maintain professional relationships with school staff and Communities for Children Fairfield partners.
  • Build and strengthen partnerships with other organisations to maintain effective, accountable services.
  • To promote the Enriching Kids Program as appropriate.

4. Workplace Health and Safety

  • Exercise due diligence in acquiring and updating knowledge to maintain compliance with all The Parks Community Network Inc. WH&S systems, risk management processes and legislation.

5. Quality and Planning

  • Contribute to continuous improvement of service delivery, operational guidelines, organisation policies and procedures.

6. Resources

  • Contribute to a cohesive team environment through effective communication and presentation of ideas in meetings.
  • Use of mobile phones, computers/laptops, video/camera and program equipment of the organisation with honesty, accountability and transparency.

7. Leadership and Organisational Values

  • Apply The Parks Community network Inc values, ethics, policies and procedures across all work practices.

8. Accountability

  • Receive professional support from The Parks Community Network Inc management;
  • Receive program direction and guidance from the EKP Coordinator;
  • Attend meetings as appropriate.

KEY COMPETENCIES

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the range of healthy developmental indicators for social and emotional health in children.
  • Demonstrated ability to assist in the delivery ofgroup activities for children (5-12 years) and families.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide information and referrals service.
  • Ability to work professionally across a range of disciplines.
  • Ability to relate to clients and their families from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and to show initiative;
  • Good communication skills including advocacy, public speaking and presentation of material to groups and meetings;
  • Experience in workingchildren from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Backgrounds and other disadvantaged groups;
  • Currentcomputer and IT skills.

REQUIREMENTS OF THE POSITION

Qualifications

  • Possession of relevant tertiary qualifications and/or experience.
  • Current C Class driver’s license.
  • Working with children Check
  • Current First Aid Certificate or ability to obtain.
