Action Cancer is a local Northern Ireland charity - all our money is raised to provide services for local communities. Our dedicated team of staff and volunteers work across the whole of Northern Ireland helping to save lives and support people affected by cancer. To operate our services we must raise circa £4 million every year.

We provide early detection and health promotion services, and counselling and support services for cancer patients and their families, thereby making a real difference to people who are affected by or living with cancer. Our Fundraising Team operate throughout Northern Ireland, helping to raise funds to support our vital services and provide up to date information about our services.

Schools & Societies Officer - Job Description

Overall Responsibility:

  1. To develop further relationships with schools and higher level education bodies, to raise funds and grow an annual, sustainable income stream.
  1. To fulfil the partnership commitments with Centra as the partner of the Health Action Programme.
  1. To develop and maintain income-generating relationships with a wide range of clubs, societies and associations to enable the charity to provide its cancer early detection, prevention and support services.
  1. To specifically lead on and develop the charity’s flagship Bra Walk and Paint the Town Pink events.

Specific Duties:

  1. Develop mechanisms and marketing initiatives to secure income streams from schools, higher level education bodies and Third-level organisations including:
  • CRM our strategic relationship with Centra ensuring the compilation and delivery of appropriate reports detailing performance of our schools Health Action programme against agreed annual targets.
  • Liaise with and follow-up on bookings processed by Services Administration to provide good customer care to schools receiving Health Promotion visits. Maximising fundraising income.
  • Develop and implement a targeted communication and information share strategy for schools.
  • Lead and organise with the Health Promotion and Clinic Administration the annual Health Action Awards.
  • Organise and grow the annual Sound of Action Christmas Carol event at St Anne’s Cathedral.
  1. Develop existing and new flagship events to generate additional funds, through increasing participation levels, additional sponsorship and a greater return from supporters.
  1. Target Young Farmers and rural based associations to generate funds and promote services.
  1. Target Youth organisations to generate funds for specific cancer prevention, early detection and support areas.
  1. Target sporting clubs and societies to build relationships to raise awareness and funds to support the charity’s work.
  1. Working with our Retail Department to develop and run at least one Shops Challenge event per annum.
  1. Develop annual income and expenditure budgeted, managing and reporting upon throughout the year.
  1. Build a small team of volunteers to assist in the deliveryof the annual planand to attend and to represent Action Cancer at cheque presentations, prize draws at schools etc.
  1. Ensure that all correspondence and documentation is handled in line with office procedures.
  1. Assist with any other duties within the Fundraising Dept as required, including preparation, and attendance of events.
  1. To undertake all statutory training as required.
  1. Any other duties as may be required.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential

  1. A minimum of two years’ experience working in Event Management, Fundraising or Marketing
  1. Relevant degree level qualification or equivalent OR a minimum of 4 years’ experience working in Event Management, Fundraising, or Marketing.
  1. Proven experience of achieving financial targets and competent budget management
  1. High level of experience and competence with IT including all Microsoft packages and social media
  1. Hold a full, current driving license with business insurance and have access to the use of a car or some other appropriate form of transport to carry out the duties of the post in full.
  1. Flexible and available to work hours to meet the needs of the role – including evenings and weekends.
  1. Excellent communication skills
  1. Excellent organisational skills
  1. Ability to multi-task, prioritise and work to deadlines
  1. Proven team player
  1. Ability to work on own initiative

Desirable Requirements

  1. One year’s experience in a similar role within the not for profit/ voluntary/charity sector
  1. Previous experience of public speaking
  1. Three years or more experience in event management and fundraising or marketing
  1. Experience of Raisers Edge software
