JOB DESCRIPTION
Grade: UNISON Grade 5
Salary: £30,589 pro rata
Hours: 20 per week
Location: Based at Dacorum, but travelling to the three branches
Reports to: Branch Secretaries/Full-time Officer
Accountable to: Branch Executives
Overall Summary
The post holder will both individually and collectively with other appropriate staff contribute to the establishment, maintenance and development of effective branch organisation and recruitment within the four areas identified for Shared Services at Watford and Three Rivers Branches.
The post holder will also be responsible of leading the recruitment and organising at the Dacorum Branch due to significant changes in the workforce being proposed by the employer.
This will be in accordance with UNISON’s aims and values and as directed by the Branch Executive Committees of the three branches.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
· To work on increasing UNISON membership within the scope of Shared Services and at Dacorum.
· To assist on improving the organising culture of UNISON and in particular branch and workplace organisation to reflect the new shared services structures.
· Campaign and promote UNISON on behalf of its members including establishing closer links with the local communities to promote UNISON’s policies on public service.
· Be responsible for advertising and organising recruitment meetings for employees.
· Carry out a mapping exercise to identify low density of members in support services in the three organisations.
· Be responsible for setting up a communications system and a regular newsletter for distribution.
· To work within agreed branch development plans.
· To work with the branches towards ensuring that;
a. Branch organisation is efficient and effective
b. Effective recruitment and retention strategies are developed and delivered.
c. Administrative systems are fully developed, including the use of branch RMS and IT links as appropriate
d. Assist with the recruitment, training and development of activists
e. Assist with National and Regional initiatives at a local level
· To assist activists in establishing and pursuing their negotiating priorities and strategy with their employers.
· To participate at Branch Executives and in team activities in relation to Shared Services and at Dacorum.
· To liaise with the branches, other teams and UNISON functions as appropriate.
· To liaise with, or make representations to external organisations as directed and appropriate to the job purpose and to the grade.
