JOB DESCRIPTION: RESEARCH ASSISTANT
The Institute of Public Health in Ireland (IPH) promotes cooperation for public health on the island of Ireland. The IPH has 3 key areas of work:
- Strengthening public health intelligence
- Building public health capacity
- Policy and programme development
The Institute of Public Health in Ireland wishes to recruit a Research Assistant to support the work of the Health Well. This is a one year (12 months) contract with possible continuation subject to funding.
The Health Well website aims to be the authoritative source of health-related evidence, data and good practice. It supports DHSSPS, PHA, DoH and HSE and a wide range of organisations working to promote health and well-being across the island of Ireland.
Its website ( includes a number of thematic hubs (at the moment these deal with obesity, fuel poverty, health inequalities, chronic conditions) and supports a number of online public health networks.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide research assistance to the Health Well and its hubs:
- Identify and catalogue relevant health-related information resources and news
- Quality assure the Health Well’s information resources from a public health perspective
- Prepare newsletter items, publications, presentations and posters to raise awareness of the Health Well and its hubs in relevant fora
- Conduct surveys of stakeholders and users to identify future information support needs, to evaluate website performance (usability and accessibility) and to assess its strategic contribution
- Provide information and research assistance to associated research projects
- Participate in training activities :
- Contribute to regional training workshops
- Prepare training materials (introductory videos, folders and flyers) for the Health Well, its hub and its online tools
- Provide information and research support to networks and web groups affiliated with the Health Well
- Other related duties as required.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The ideal candidate will:
- Be familiar with the relevant literature, policy and health services context of across the island
- Have at least one year’s relevant applied research experience
- Have extensive experience with MS Office packages (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access and Powerpoint)
- Be an enthusiastic contributor to work on all-island and North-South projects.
DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS:
- A relevant post-graduate qualification
- Experience of SurveyMonkey software
- Experience of website content management software such as drupal
- Experience of SAS software.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Graduate qualification in public health or related field.
TERMS & CONDITIONS
- Remuneration will be in the range of €24,252- €33,952 depending on qualifications and experience
- The successful candidate will report to the Director of the Health Well
- The position will be based inDublin 2.
