What should I do?

1. Submit Parent/Student Release Form to your counselor- no transcripts will be sent until this form is completed and returned.

2. Log on to Naviance:

https://succeed.naviance.com/hackettstown (link also available on Guidance website)

To begin the process:

·  Click the “Colleges” tab

·  Click “Colleges I’m Applying To”

·  If using the Common Application- you must create your common application account before utilizing Naviance. If you haven’t- STOP and create your account at

www. commonapp.org. Then - return to Naviacne and complete the “Common App Matching” in the blue box.

·  Click “Add to This List”

·  Complete application “Type”

·  Click “Look Up” to select each school on your list

·  At the bottom of the page click “Add Colleges”

·  Back on the previous window, for each college added- answer the question next to the college name-“Applying via Common App?” by clicking on the word “Unknown”.

To request transcripts:

·  Click the “Transcripts” link on the left side of the page

·  Click “Request Transcripts For My College Applications”

·  Click the box in front of the college name for which you want to request a transcript. For a school not yet on your list, under “New Applications” select the application type(s) and the name of the school(s)

·  At the bottom of the page click the box “Request Transcripts”

·  To check your transcripts status - click “Colleges I am Applying To” and then click the “View Detailed Status ” link.

* AT THIS TIME DO NOT REQUEST TEACHER RECOMMENDATIONS ON NAVIANCE.

3. Request Letters of Recommendation IN PERSON. Provide the person with your resume.

AFTER you have asked for your recommendation in person, log back onto Naviance:

·  Click the “Colleges” tab

·  Click “Colleges I’m Applying To”

·  Under “Teacher Recommendations” click “Add/Cancel Requests”

·  Under “New Requests” select teacher(s) from list and provide an optional note asking for their recommendation.

·  At the bottom of the page click “Update Requests”

Note: When you add additional colleges to your list, you MUST AGAIN request letters of recommendation from your teachers for the new schools if they are required.

4. Request that your SAT/ACT test scores be sent directly to each college.

·  Please contact ETS (Educational Testing Service) at www.collegeboard.com to send SAT I / SAT II and/or Subject Test scores to the colleges to which you are applying.

·  Please contact ACT Assessment at www.actstudent.org to send ACT scores to the colleges to which you are applying.

Note: Due to “Score Choice” and university preference test scores will no longer be sent by the Guidance department as part of your transcript.

5. Submit your applications, fees, essays, resumes, and any other required documents directly to the college well before the required deadline.

7. File your financial aid form with FAFSA beginning January 1st- at www.fafsa.ed.gov.

Need more info….HHS Financial Aid Night is October 8th at the evening college fair.

8. REMINDER If you are thinking about playing a sport in a Division 1 or 2 college? You MUST complete the NCAA Clearinghouse on-line at www.ncaaclearinghouse.net. Be sure to print out the transcript release form on their website and return it to your counselor ASAP!

*To request a transcript for NCAA Clearinghouse- add NCAA to your “Colleges I Am Applying To” list and

follow the same steps as colleges to request a transcript.

*Please be aware that NCAA transcripts are sent via US Mail not in electronic format.

9. College Credit Transcripts (if required)- must be requested directly from each college- Warren County Community College, Centenary College, UMDNJ, or Seton Hall registrar’s office.

Note: The Guidance Department cannot provide these transcripts.

10. Update your application status on Naviance as you receive notification from your colleges.

Click “Colleges I am Applying To”, then on your list of colleges in the results column

Click the icon: Unknown /

and choose the appropriate results.
