Knowledge & Skills
·  A recognized social work qualification – eg. Dip.SW, CQSW, CSS.
·  Registration with one of the Care Councils for England, Cymru, Scotland or Northern Ireland.
·  Well developed numeracy and literacy skills at a level that would enable the post holder to process complex reports or statistical statements.
·  Specialist theoretical / professional knowledge of working with children and young people.
·  Working knowledge of the following legislation (as relevant to the job role being undertaken) :
- Care Standards
- Fostering Services Regulations (England) 2002
- Fostering Services (Wales) Regulations 2003
- The Fostering of Children (Scotland) Regulations 1996
- The Fostering Placement (Children) Regulations (NI) 1996
- Adoption & Children’s Act 2002
- Children’s Act 1989.
·  Knowledge of the requirements of assessment and records for Fostering Form F and PAR.
·  Knowledge of child and adolescent behaviour including behaviour management techniques and strategies.
·  Knowledge of child neglect and physical, sexual and emotional abuse and the effects of separation and loss on children.

·  Relevant experience of social work practice with children and families.
·  Experience of skills in assessment.
·  Relevant experience of family placement, including preparation and presentation of Fostering / Adoption Form F Assessments.
