SUBJECT: Report #4010401 - Monthly Activity Report – December 2008

The Department of Public Works, Utilities & Engineering significant activities for the month of December are summarized below:
1) Engineering Division has completed the Bid documents for Miscellaneous Construction Services and the Bid for Construction of a Water Plant Security Wall. We are also finalizingthe Bid for the City Marina Project. We are also preparing the Agenda item for Continuing Consultant Services Contracts.
2) The Bid for the NE FMA project has been issued and bids are due on the 26th.
3) Engineering Division is preparing for design and construction of decorative
crosswalks on West Hallandale Beach Blvd.
4) The Sanitation Division successfully implemented its annual Bulk Collection Sweep.
5) All 4 mast arms are now installed at 8 Avenue and Hallandale Beach Blvd; wiring and
connections for traffic signals are being completed. Underground conduits and cables
to connect all signals and equipment are being completed. Construction completion
scheduled for this month.
6) Landscaping Division installed new plants in median at WHBB, installed new plants
at Diana Drive lift station.
7) Landscaping Division gave away 30 trees to community members as part of it’s
residential tree program.
8) Bridge rehabilitation contract has been awarded and construction is being
scheduled.
9) The Wastewater Division smoke tested 20,594 feet of sanitary sewer in the NE
section. Numerous defects were found and staff is currently working on repairing
the defects. In addition, 3 manholes were found leaking. Staff repaired
the leaks, saving an estimated $77,450/year in treatment costs.
rehabilitation of the Egret Drive Lift Station has started and scheduled for
completion by the end of February.
10) The Water Distribution Division continued replacement of and retrofitting of fire
hydrants.
11) Plant Maintenance completed the following:
1) Rebuilt one of two 500 gallons per minutes high service room pumps.
2) Plant maintenance refurbished the dump body of landscaping truck # 543.
The Department has a number of other projects either underway or being planned, in addition to the many ongoing maintenance and services rendered.
