Transport report

Further to my report I have now been able to contact the right person, in the Community transport section to give me the required information.

With regard the school bus, the contract has now been awarded to an operator and it will be up to them to decide if they will take members of the public, as well as the school children. However it will be in their best interests, if there is room to do so as this will increase their revenue. The 97 bus route was also up for tender and the contract has now been awarded, it is up to the operator if the timetable remains the same, and has also not been decided yet.

I have informed Dorset Community Transport about our voluntary car scheme, Two Bridges, which we share with Sandleheath, and which will now be included on the website.

Routes we have include the Plus Bus running to Salisbury every Tuesday, for residents that have difficulty with ordinary transport. One needs to register, and then bookings can be made by phoning 01258 287980 (between 9.30am and 2.30pm Monday to Friday) or email . This service also offers a door to door service where possible.

For youngsters over 16, there is a wheels to work scheme which gives them the opportunity to take advantage of the “Loan to Own Scheme” by renting a moped which will eventually become their own. Training is also given within this scheme. For further information go to

Then there is the “Lift Share Car” scheme which I urge people to join, further details can be found at This connects car owners with people requiring transport, and both parties can save money by sharing travel costs.

Verwood has a mini bus hire scheme, for groups which we may be able to access. This is a 13 seater Citroen and is run by G Simpkin or M Daymond email or phone either 01202 818305 or 01202 822549 for further information.
