Description and Use
BIOBROM C-100G is a specially formulated stabilized bromine based biocide.
BIOBROM C-100G controls bacterial, fungal, and algal slimes in recirculating cooling water in commercial or industrial cooling towers.
Control of microbiological populations is essential to prevent biofouling. Biofouling of heat exchange systems and tower fill reduces heat transfer efficiency leading to higher energy costs. Biofouling can also damage equipment through microbiologically influenced corrosion (MIC) and force unscheduled shutdowns, or extended turnarounds leading to lost production.
Biofouling in cooling systems can provide an ideal environment for proliferation of Legionella bacteria, the cause of Legionnaires' disease. Halogens have been recommended by various agencies (CTI, ASHRAE, CDC, etc.) as an integral part of Legionella Risk Reduction programs. BIOBROM C-100G provides a significant halogen residual that can be measured with a standard total chlorine test. The active in BIOBROM C-100G has proven highly effective against Legionella bacteria in laboratory testing. Note however that chemical treatment alone will not be effective in reducing health hazards associated with Legionella bacteria. System design and location, maintenance practices and employee awareness are critical elements of a successful risk reduction program.
BIOBROM C-100G biocide is EPA-registered for use as a disinfectant, fungicide, algaecide and/or slimicide for wastewater, commercial and industrial recirculating cooling water systems, industrial once-through cooling water systems and pulp and paper mills. It also controls bacterial, fungal, and algal slime in decorative fountains, air washers and food, beverage, and industrial process pasteurizers.
For a complete listing of EPA-approved end-uses, see the BIOBROM C-100G product label.
Treatment and Feeding Requirements
Proper treatment levels for BIOBROM C-100G depend on many factors, such system cleanliness, types of microbes, nutrient concentrations, temperature, pH, retention time, and other system operating characteristics. Consult the product label for general dosage guidelines. Microbiological monitoring is recommended to evaluate product requirements.
Consult your GE representative for technical advice on your specific application.
Conventional feeding equipment like a diaphragm pump or peristaltic pump is recommended. Current bleach systems can be used if they are thoroughly cleaned and free of contaminants.
Tanks, pumps, valves and associated piping should be made of titanium, HastelloyC-276, Monel 400, vinyl tubing, polyethylene, polypropylene, PVC, Viton, Teflon, Tygontubing, chlorobutyl rubber and Hypalon. (Hastelloy is registered trademark of Haynes International. Viton and Hypalon are registered trademarks of DuPont Dow Elastomers. Teflon is a registered trademark of DuPont. Tygon is a registered trademark of Norton Company.)
Incompatible: Buna-N rubber, neoprene, silicone rubber, Plasite4300, nylon, Kynar(PVDF), brass, carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum and other metals. (Plasite is a registered trademark of Wisconsin Protective Coatings Corporation, Kynar is a registered trademark of Atochem Corporation.)
