Job Title:Charity Accountant

Location:Salesian Provincial Office, Bolton

Essential / Desirable
Qualifications / • Qualified accountant or equivalent
• Good general education to GCSE or equivalent, including Maths & English / • Chartered accountant status
• Business and administration qualification
Experience / • A minimum 2 years’ relevant bookkeeping and accountancy experience
• Experience of manual and computerised financial transaction processing systems / • Experience of SORP accounting requirements
• Experience of working in a small office/team in a wide-ranging role
• Experience of working in a charity environment
• PAYE reporting
• Experience of processing VAT returns
Knowledge and Understanding / • Good working knowledge of SAGE or equivalent accounting software
• Competent user of MS Office packages e.g. Excel, Word, Outlook to intermediate level as a minimum / • Understanding of the requirements of charity accounting
• Knowledge of Gift Aid processing
Abilities and Skills / • Able to maintain high levels of confidentiality
• Methodical and organised approach to work
• Able to work accurately with figures and with attention to detail
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Able to manage own workload and meet tight and competing deadlines
• Able to travel on occasion as the role requires
• Effective interpersonal skills / • Strong presentation skills
• Diplomatic and assertive
• Ability to take accurate minutes of complex finance and management meetings
