4th GRADE EXPLORER PROJECT

You will create a lapbook for your assigned explorer. Each section of the lapbook will contain different information about your explorer.

Title page – This is the cover of your lapbook. This should include an illustration that shows things you learned about your explorer and a picture of your explorer. You can print a picture from the internet of your explorer but the rest should be drawn by you.

Section 1 – Biographical facts – This section should include birth and death dates, where the explorer is from, his life growing up, marriage, children, any other jobs the explorer did, cause of death, etc. This should be written in paragraph form.

Section 2 – Exploration facts – This section should include facts about the person’s exploration (where they traveled to, what they found along the way, difficulties they may have encountered, the significance or importance of their exploration.) This should also be written in paragraph form.

Section 3 – Timeline – This section is for a timeline. The timeline should include at least 7 important events from the explorer’s life. It should include include at least two pictures drawn or printed from the internetpictures.

Section 4 – map – Include a map of your explorer’s route of exploration. Make sure it includes a title, compass rose, map key, and labels with the route drawn.

Section 5 – 4Cs – Complete a 4Cs graphic organizer about your explorer. This will be drawn and labeled on the file folder. The 4Cs are Concepts (important things to know about the explorer), challenges (troubles or challenges they encountered in their life), Connections (connections to things you have learned about, connections to your life or the world), and Changes (What changes did the explorer go through and what changes happened because of this explorer).

Bibliography – This should be on the back of the lapbook. At least 2 sources have to be used and listed.

****Some of the research for this project will be completed at school. Whatever is not completed at school will be finished at home.
