The biggest Leistritz extruder: ZSE 260 MAXX!

Leistritz Extrusionstechnik GmbH will be presenting its biggest twin screw extruder – the ZSE 260 MAXX – at the K Trade Fair from 19 to 26 October 2016.

Düsseldorf (October 19, 2016) – “The extension of our very successful ZSE MAXX series by a further size is the logical consequence of the market’s demand,” explains Sven Wolf, Managing Director of Leistritz Extrusionstechnik GmbH in Nuremberg. “Having successfully completed our prestigious project last year, the construction of a large compounder within the scope of a polymerization plant, we received numerous inquiries from customers asking about the capacities of a ZSE 260 MAXX.” This is the biggest co-rotating Leistritz twin screw extruder to date for the extruder manufacturer and system supplier. One of the extruder’s barrels is on display in Hall 16/Booth F22. “Anyone who is interested can discover this giant in augmented reality with the help of 3D glasses“, explains Sven Wolf.

Overview of the ZSE 260 MAXX

The figures for the ZSE 260 MAXX twin screw extruder are gigantic too: with a drive power of nearly 9,500 kW and a screw torque of almost 112,500 Nm, a throughput of up to 35 t/h is possible depending on the application. “We have installed a variable-speed drive here to guarantee a “spot on” economical mode of operation for large-scale compounding, particularly with fluctuating production requirements”, says Sven Wolf.“Thus, we can control the energy input in the most efficient way when producing compounds with different MFI values.” It is also equipped with the familiar features of the ZSE MAXX machines: with a high torque of 15.0 Nm/cm³ and the high OD/ID of 1.66, it opens up a very broad process window and allows a very good energy input. The result: the best product quality, even for processes with a high energy demand. The use of a low-maintenance drive concept in the ZSE 260 MAXX takes account of the increased demands on availability and longer service intervals. Plain bearings are used in the gear box, for example. And the twin screw extruder also scores well when it comes to heating/cooling. It can be equipped with not only a conventional heating using heating cartridges but also an oil or steam heating/cooling system. This guarantees not only the exact temperature curve during processing but at the same time an energetically favorable process.
