VRV R-22 replacement and water cooled VRV ranges upgraded

to fourth generation VRV technology

Daikin’s VRV Q replacement system, which enables cost-effective R-22system replacement, and its water cooled VRV series for tall buildings and geothermal applications, both now incorporate the latest VRV IV technology for easier installation and improved energy efficiency.

Since its launch in autumn 2012, the fourth generation of Daikin’s VRV heat pump has proved popular with installers and end users alike, with its class-leading efficiencies, improved comfort, lower operational costs and reduced carbon emissions.VRV IV introduced three revolutionary innovations: weather dependent Variable Refrigerant Temperature technology, continuous heating during defrost and the VRV Configurator for simplified commissioning and servicing.

Both Variable Refrigerant Temperature and the Configurator are now features ofreplacement VRVIV and the water-cooled VRVIV series.

For installers, the VRV configurator software simplifies commissioning. It allows settings to be configured remote from the installation, so less time is required configuring the outdoor unit on site. Several installations can be also be commissioned using the same settings, saving even more time. Ongoing maintenance is easier too, thanks to a graphical interface allowing installers to evaluate operational data and errors.

Variable Refrigerant Temperature technology delivers a 28% increase in ESEER. Any of the eight different modes, which can be selected at any time, increase flexibility and available options depending on whether priority is on efficiency, comfort or reaction to load variations. Most of the modes are weather dependent, thus meeting a building’s needs in the most intelligent way. Changing settings is easy and allows the VRV system to be customised to meet end-user requirements.

VRV IV Q series, for fast, cost-effective upgrading of R-22 systems

Time is running out for systems running on R-22, with a total European ban coming into force on 1 January 2015. While systems using R-22 can still be used after the ban, they can no longer be serviced. In case of a breakdown, this could mean long and unplanned downtime as R-22 will not be available anymore, so businesses should consider replacing their systems now.For installers, encouraging clients to replace their systems sooner, rather than later, could avoid a potentially unmanageable peak in work load in the run-up to the ban.

Daikin’s VRV IV Qseries is a fast and cost-effective alternative to complete system replacement. It uses R-410A refrigerant gas, which is the most efficient refrigerant that is widely available on the market. R-410A gas has lower global warming impact than R-22, yetallows existing R-22 pipework to be retained.

The VRV IV Q seriesalso potentially allows controllers and indoor units installed since 1996 to be retained, so only outdoor units and heat recovery branch selector boxes have to be replaced, thus spreading costs and minimising disruption to business operations. Less waste is produced and cost savings of up to 50% can be achieved when compared with replacing an entire system.Changing to VRV IV also means energy bills can be reduced by up to 70%.

VRV IV W-series: ideal for tallcommercial buildings and geothermal applications

High seasonal efficiencies through Variable Refrigerant Temperature technology and easier installation and configuration using the VRV configurator are also features of Daikin’s water-cooled VRV IV W series.

The water-cooled range is ideal for tall buildings where the allowable refrigerant piping of air-cooled systems is too short or where there is little spaceto site outdoor units. The compact and lightweight units can be stacked to save even more space, with the 8HP unit weighing just 149kg and being under 1m high. They are also quiet, making them suitable for areas with stringent noise restrictions.

The geothermal variant has also been upgraded, givingsuperior efficiency, even in the most extreme climates, as the temperature of groundwater remains relatively stable. In geothermal mode the inlet water temperature can be as low as -10°C in heating and 6°C in cooling.Additionally, the geothermal and standard series are now available as one model, making stock management easier.A water filter is fitted as standard in all models, resulting in lower installation costs and worry-free installation.

As with all VRV IV systems, VRV IV-Q and VRV IV-W heat pumps are designed specifically for the European market and are manufactured in Europe, so lead-in times are short. Both models can be used with Daikin’s wide range of fan coil, ventilation andair handling units and Biddle air curtainsand can be used to produce hot water.
