The last date for entry into courses or programmes leading to the expiring qualification is 31 December 2017. The last date for assessment of the expiring qualification is 31December 2019at which time it will be discontinued. From that date no results can be reported against the qualification.

People should not be enrolled in programmes leading to the award of this qualification unless there is sufficient time available to them to complete the programme and be awarded the qualification before it expires.

It is intended that no existing learner be disadvantaged by these transition arrangements. Any person who considers they have been disadvantaged may contact the standard setting body at the address below.

Purpose

The National Certificate in Reo Māori Media (Introductory Media Skills) [Ref: 1629] is designed to raise the quality of te reo Māori within the media industry and recognise media and journalism skills and knowledge required to work in the Māori radio, television, and print industries. It is aimed primarily at people who want to pursue a career in these industries, or people who have recently started working in the industries.

The qualification includes compulsory standards which cover skills and knowledge that provide an introduction to the multiple aspects of working in Reo Māori Media.

This qualification leads to the National Certificate in Reo Māori Media (Foundation Media Skills) (Level 4) [Ref: 1630].

It is intended that training, delivery, and assessment for this qualification is conducted predominantly in te reo Māori.

Special Notes

It is recommended that candidates have previously achieved credit for Level 2 standards in both theKōrero and Whakarongo domains; or possess equivalent skills and knowledge.

It is also recommended that candidates possess basic word processing skills and are aware of the principles of Occupational Safety and Health.

People who already possess skills and knowledge relevant to this qualification are encouraged to seek recognition through the provider’s Recognition of Current Competence (RCC) process.

Replacement Information

This qualification and the National Certificate in Reo Māori Media (Foundation Skills) (Level 4) [Ref: 1630] replaced the National Certificate in Reo Māori Media (Introductory Skills) (Level 4) [Ref: 1024].

This qualification and the National Certificate in Reo Māori Media (Foundation Skills) (Level 4) [Ref: 1630] replaced the National Certificate Reo Māori Media (Introductory Skills) (Level 4) [Ref: 1024].

Standards 7259, 7263, 7267, 7271, 10197, 10198, 10303, 10353, 10823, 10825, 10826, 10831, 19749 from the replaced qualification are included in this qualification.

The last date for assessments to take place for the replaced qualification is 31 March 2011. Version 1 of the replaced qualification is no longer achievable.

Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against standards must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.
