1st Annual Lady Cougar Christmas Volleyball Camp

Do you need a few hours to go Christmas shopping or to get the kids out to burn off some steam? As you begin to plan your busy schedules, we hope you include our volleyball camp on your calendars. We will focus on teaching fundamental skills to the younger groups, as well as the general rules of the game. We will also incorporate more advanced team skills for the older group to help prepare them for Junior High and high school volleyball next fall. Each camper is required to wear appropriate tennis shoes and is encouraged to bring a water bottle. Knee pads are also recommended.

Camp T-Shirts are included in the registration fee as long as your registration is received by December 2nd. Walk-ins are welcome but camper will not receive a T-shirt and the price will be the same.

Grades 1-4 will be from 1-3pm

Grades 5-8 will be from 3:15-5:30pm

The cost is $30.00 per camper

The Greenfield-Central Athletic Department will be hosting an Echoes for Athletes event on November 6, from 5:00-7:45 at the high school. Heart Partners of IN/IU Health Cardiovascular will provide cardiac echo screenings for athletes in grades 9-12. The purpose of the screenings is to rule out rare but potentially fatal heart ailments found in young athletes.

Cost is $25. Registration with a specific appointment time is required. To register or if you have questions, Please contact ConnieJo Harris at Greenfield-Central Athletics at 462-9195 ext. 2.

NEWS FROM HANCOCK PUBLIC LIBRARY

Teen Open Lab

On school days, teens have the computer lab to themselves every Monday through Wednesday, from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m., at the Hancock County Public Library in Greenfield. Do homework, listen to music, play games, or check up on a favorite social networking site. Library cards aren’t required.

Teen Writing Club

Teens in grade 6 to age 19, invent memorable characters during a writing club on Wednesday, October 2, from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m., at the Hancock County Public Library's Sugar Creek Branch in New Palestine.

Gina Damico, author of the Croak trilogy, will Skype in to talk live about techniques that make characters leap off the page. Later, use a questionnaire derived from Alice Orr's book, No More Rejections, to develop a strong protagonist. Register at or call 861-6618, ext. 311.

Book a Librarian

The Hancock County Public Library’s “Book a Librarian” service has evening hours four nights a month for those who work during the day. Schedule an appointment between 5:00 and 8:00 p.m. on October 3, 17, 21 and 28 in Greenfield.

People who want help brushing up on their computer skills; starting an email account; downloading library eBooks, magazines and music; or finding information can get one-on-one assistance. Meet with a librarian for up to an hour of expert help.

The service is available to Hancock County residents over 18 yrs. old. Ask for an appointment at the information desk; phone 462-5141, ext. 240; or download a form from the “Reference and Research” section on the library’s website at .

“Book a Librarian” appointments are also available Monday through Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Teens in grade 6 to age 19, help the Teen Library Council plan "Fright Night" decorations on Thursday, October 3, from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m., at the Hancock County Public Library in Greenfield. Also, TLC will finish up a grant request for next summer's Teen's Read the Way program.

The State of Indiana has declared the week of September 23-27 College GO! Week. In the spirit of College GO! Week in our state, Indiana University East is excited to announce a college preparation program for you – Red Wolves Day on September 27, 9:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m., on our campus.

You are invited join us for Red Wolves Day on Friday, September 27 to experience the energy and excitement of IU East. This day is more than just a college visit; it’s a fun and interactive event designed to help your seniors with their preparations for college. The action-packed morning will include lunch, t-shirts, prizes, and more – that’s the fun part.

The informative part includes a series of 20-minute breakout sessions on the following topics:

  • Know How to Go! – all the key details about admissions, financial aid, and scholarships.
  • Take 5 – a candid Q and A with current IU East students.
  • Main Street Fair – a chance to meet IU East faculty and learn about IU degree programs on campus.
  • Hoosier Hot Jobs! – useful information about career paths for bachelor’s-prepared students.

ANOTHER COLLEGE TO GO OPPORTUNITY

Purdue University College of Technology will be hosting its 2nd Annual Purdue Tailgate on Thursday, September 26, 2013 from 4:30 – 6:30PM outside of Tom Raper Hall on our shared Purdue/IU East Campus. We will be having free hamburgers, hotdogs, and other tailgate food. We will also be having some fun with music, cornhole, ladderball, and other tailgate games.

You are cordially invited to attend. We will be giving tours of the Purdue facilities. Purdue faculty and staff will be available to share information about degrees offered at Purdue Richmond.

If students/families want, there is a place to pre-register for a barcode, which has all of the students information. Instead of spending half of the fair writing out their information, colleges can scan the student's barcode to receive their information.

The Varsity Football game vs Rushville scheduled for September 27th has been moved to a 7:00p.m. start.

On October 2 at 7:00 p.m.Team Indiana Volleyball will be in the Cougar Meeting Room at the High School for an information night. If anyone is interested in learning about Team Indiana this would be a great opportunity to come and ask questions. There is no obligation. This is strictly an opportunity to learn more about Team Indiana Volleyball Club.

Please pass along to anyone else who may be interested in playing club volleyball. Team Indiana has teams for players aged 10-18.

If you are carrying OTC medications, you must have a medication pass to carry this medication with you during school. Go to the clinic to obtain your yellow medication pass.

All students are welcome to join the FCA Club. This group meets on Wednesday mornings at 7:30 a.m. in the Cougar Meeting Room. Stop by next Wednesday, grab a doughnut, and check it out.

Band students will be recycling on Thursdays after school. Put your recycles outside your room when school is out and they will pick it up.
