Instructions

1)Cut the prints into left and right halves. The left half is someone who knows the recipe (recipe). The right half is someone who doesn’t know the recipe (recipe questionnaire). You now have 6 separate sheets.

2)Give each student 2 sheets – one recipe, and one recipe questionnaire. Make sure the 2 sheets are not for the same recipe.

3)Students walk around the class and try to complete their questionnaires:

  • Student A asks, “I have mixed eggs, milk, and salt in a bowl. Could you tell me what to do next?”
  • Student B says, “Soak the bread in the egg mix.”
  • Student A writes, “I have soaked the bread in the egg mix.” and writes Student B’s name. Student A then looks for another student who knows the recipe.

4)Students cannot ask the same student twice.

Tips

I know these recipes are terrible. Please for safety’s sake, do not attempt them at home. If you would like to revise/simplify this activity, please do so and submit the improved version to In practice, the better students did fine, while the slower students had a lot of trouble. Explain the cooking verbs before you proceed.
