Position:Active Club Co-Ordinator – People with Disabilities

Location:Disability Sport NI, Airport Road West, Belfast

Reports To:Senior Development Officer, Performance & Coaching

SALARY:Salary Scale NJC Point 29 - 31

(£24,892 - £26,539) (2014/15 – Under Review)

HOURS:37.5 hours per week. Hours of work will be those necessary to carry out the full responsibilities of the post, some of which may be in the evening and/or weekends. Time-off-in-lieu will be allowed in respect of working evenings and weekends.

DURATION:Fixed Term Contract to 31st March 2016 (With possibility of extension to November 2018).

Disability Sport NI is the main disability sports charity in Northern Ireland and works to ensure that people with disabilities have an equal opportunity to lead a full, active and healthy lifestyle through sport and physical recreation. We work with people with physical, sensory and learning disabilities of all ages, and with schools, disability groups, sporting organisations and clubs to ensure that everyone can benefit from the health, social and competition benefits of sport and physical recreation. Last year our programmes benefitted over 20,000 people across Northern Ireland.

Job Purpose:

The Active Club Co-Ordinator will be responsible for the development, implementation and management of programmes and initiatives aimed at increasing participation opportunities in mainstream and disability sports clubs for 1) People who are blind or partially sighted and/or 2) People with physical disabilities. The post holder will also work closely with sports clubs to develop a range of training, education and capacity building opportunities for coaches and volunteers.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • To support and encourage the inclusion of blind or partially sighted people and/or people with physical disabilitiesin mainstream and disability sports clubs.
  • To initiate and support the development of new sports clubs aimed specifically at blind or partially sighted people and/or people with physical disabilities.
  • To support and facilitate the development of Disability Sport NI member groups and clubs.
  • To facilitate and support the development of the Blind Sports Network NI and other relevant forum’s and committees.
  • To implement club development plans for the sports of Wheelchair Basketball and Boccia in Northern Ireland.
  • To plan and coordinate a programme of training, education and learning opportunities for club coaches and volunteers, to include the organisation of workshops and seminars.
  • To support the delivery of the programme by developing and maintaining partnerships with a range of key stakeholders including sports clubs, schools and adult centres, disability organisations, Governing Bodies of Sport, Local Authorities and Health Trusts.
  • To ensure effective monitoring, evaluation of the programme against pre-determined project key performance indicators.
  • To effectively manage the programme budget.
  • To undertake any other duties as may be required by your line manager from time to time.

PERSONNEL SPECIFICATION

1.QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

Essential Criteria:

1.1A degree (or equivalent third level qualification) in sports related subject and two years full time (or part time equivalent) experience of working with sports clubs, coaches and volunteers in a sports development, coaching or performance sport environment;

or

five years full time (or part time equivalent) experience of working with sports clubs, coaches and volunteers in a sports development, coaching or performance sport environment.

1.2 One year’s full time (or part time equivalent) experience of workingwith people with disabilities.

1.3 A knowledge and understanding of the barriers to participation in sport experienced by people with disabilities.

1.4A knowledge and understanding of the principles of sports development.

Desirable Criteria:

1.5 An understandingof the ‘Classification’ system used in disability

sport.

1.6Demonstrable experience of managing project budgets.

2.SPECIAL APTITUDES

Essential Criteria:

2.1The ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing.

2.2The ability to use own initiative, organise own work, work within budget constraints and achieve agreed targets and objectives within set timescales.

2.3Competent in the use of information technology, in particular Microsoft Software Packages and Social Media.

2.4Excellent Inter-personal skills and ability to work as part of a team.

3.CIRCUMSTANCES

Essential Criteria:

3.1Ability to work evenings and weekends as and when required.

3.2Access to a form of transport that will permit the post holder to meet the requirements of the post.

3.3Available and willing to undertake training necessary for the post.
