Purpose:

To tautoko and encourage Kaumatua (65yrs+) to maintain good health. In line with the charitable objectives of Te Runanga o Moeraki Incorporated Society, Te Runanga may provide grants to Runanga kaumatua members in need.

Registered kaumatua of Te Runanga o Moeraki can apply for a Kaumatua grant by following the procedures outlined in this policy. Applications for grants are up to a maximum of $500.00 in each financial year (1 July – 30 June). The amount awarded will be at the discretion of the Executive Committee and does not have to meet the maximum amount.

An annual budget for Kaumatua Grants will be set, and this budget should not be exceeded if at all possible.

ASSESSING APPLICATIONS

The Executive Committee will assess applications for Kaumatua Grants. When assessing applications the Executive Committee will:

1)Treat each applicant respectfully, impartially and without preference or prejudice due to relationship or friend.

2)Consider each application in light of the criteria attached to this policy, and make a decision on each application.

3)Advise the Office of the outcome.

4)Provide a written report at each Runanga meeting on the outcome of any applications received.

The decision made by the Executive Committee will be final and not open to appeal.

APPLICANT RESPONSIBILITIES

Any person applying to Te Runanga o Moeraki for a Kaumatua Grant must comply with the following:

1)Be a registered member of Te Runanga o Ngai Tahu and whakapapa to Te Runanga o Moeraki.

2)Complete a Kaumatua Grant application form, available from the Runanga office, and include all supporting documents. Application will not be processed if this form is not completed.

ADMINISTRATION RESPONSIBILITIES

All applications will be treated confidentially. Upon receipt of an application for a Kaumatua Grant the office administrator will acknowledge receipt of the application in writing to the applicant within five (5) working days.

1)If the application for a Kaumatua Grant is incomplete or inaccurate the office will contact the applicant as soon as practicable to assist in completing the applicationaccurately and correctly.

2)Forward the application to the executive for consideration and a decision.

3)The Office Administrator will advise the applicant in writing of the decision on their application. If the decision is in favour of the a grant being given, a cheque for the amount agreed upon by the executive committee will be drawn and enclosed with the letter, or if preferred, forwarded or direct credited to the payee.

4)If the decision is against the applicant, the reason will be stated in the letter.

Te Runanga o Moeraki offer Grants to assist and encourage their Kaumatua to maintain good health and wellbeing.

Who is eligible?

1)Applicants must be registered with Te Runanga o Ngai Tahu.

2)Applicants must whakapapa to Moeraki.

How much are the grants for?

1)Up to a maximum of $500 per member in each financial year (1 July – 30 June)

What are the grants for?

1) To assist members aged 65years or over for the purpose of maintaining good health and wellbeing, and may include contribution to the following:

  1. Eye treatment
  2. Hearing
  3. Dental
  4. Walking aids
  5. Podiatry
  6. Mammograms/prostate
  7. Specialist fees
  8. GP visits
  9. Medically related travel expenses
  10. Prescriptions/medications
  11. Personal alarm
  12. Wood, heating, electricity (per household)
  13. Emergency travel for crisis in general

How do I apply for a grant?

1)Contact the Runanga office on 03 439 4816, or email to request an application form and information.

2)Complete the application form and attach all relevant documentation.

3)Invoices/receipts must be within the current financial year.

4)Return completed application form and relevant documents to Te Runanga o Moeraki, Tenby Street, Moeraki RD2, PALMERSTON.

Where is the grant paid to?

Te Runanga o Moeraki will pay the grant direct to:

1)The applicant, where the Invoice(s) have already been paid, proof of payment is required.

2)Medical provider or provider of other services on receipt of the Invoice.
