Dear Families,

Welcome to 7th grade! I hope you had a terrific, relaxing summer and are ready to tackle the curriculum in place for you this year. Go Math! Below you will find the answers to some of the questions you may have.

What supplies are needed for class?

  • Binder
  • Writing utensils, preferably pencils.
  • Looseleaf
  • One box of tissues
  • One tub of baby wipes
  • Math textbook – will be brought home and to school daily

How can I contact you?

Phone: 434-6200 or email:.

What should my child do when entering class?

  • Quietly take your seat before the bell rings.
  • Copy down the new homework assignment(s) in your agenda before the bell (if you didn’t sign up for remind, otherwise it will be sent directly to your phone/email address).
  • The homework that is due should be taken out and left on your desk.
  • Begin the Warm Up and wait for further instructions.

Homework?

  • Homework is given most days.
  • Students must show all work and attempt to complete all problems in order to receive full credit for the homework. Homework that is not complete could receive half credit or no credit depending on the amount of work done.
  • If a student is absent from school, the student is required to make up the work. If I receive absent homework from you in a timely manner, you will receive full credit. Please write the word ABSENT at the top of the homework.
  • Late homework is accepted one day late for half credit, but is not accepted after that (unless under extreme circumstances supported by a note).

What are the rules for the class?

  • Follow directions (will vary depending on the activity) and listen actively.
  • Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself.
  • No cursing/inappropriate language, name calling, bullying, teasing, or interrupting.
  • Be on time (first lateness – warning, second – phone call home, third – Dean’s detention)

What happens if the rules are broken?

  • Warning
  • Brief separation from activity/conference with teacher
  • Parent called
  • Detention
  • Referral to dean
  • Removal from class to an Administrator’s office

What is the grading policy?

Assessments (tests & quizzes): 75%

You will receive written, full period tests. Tests will be announced at least three (3) days before the exam is given. Quizzes can be given at any time, but are usually announced the day before.

Homework: 15%

Homework will be assigned most days. It will be on the board in the same location every day. Unless otherwise indicated, homework is due on the next class day. Late homework is not accepted more than one day late (unless under extreme circumstances).

Class work & participation: 10%

You are expected to be involved in your education, which means participation in the class assignments, activities, discussions, etc. will be checked and/or graded. A well organized, neat, and complete binder is a valuable tool to your education. It will contain all class work and it will be available every day.

What is the “remind thing” you mentioned earlier?

Remind is an app I will be using to send home homework assignments, dates of assessments, and keep track of important events that are happening throughout the year. This app lets me send out messages to you (to your smartphone or email), without disclosing any of that information. If you wish to download the app, it’s free, or you can go to remind.com, or simply text 81010 to sign up. The class code for “Nardella Math 7” is @624k7g and the class code for “Nardella Math 7H” is @c097fa.

I’m looking forward to a productive year and meeting you at Know Your School Night.

Warmly,

Francesca Nardella
