A RESOLUTION honoring the Beechwood High School Football Tigers, 2004 KHSAA Class A Football State Champions.

WHEREAS, on the afternoon of December 3, 2004, the Beechwood Tigers won the 2004 KHSAA Class A football championship by defeating the Danville Admirals 23-7 at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium in Louisville; and

WHEREAS, with their victory securing the school's ninth state football title, Beechwood returned to the historical prominence they had enjoyed through many years of gridiron success, having won an astounding seven state titles during the decade of the 90s; and

WHEREAS, Beechwood was led on the field by senior running back Dustin Menetrey, whose 187 rushing yards on 34 carries earned him game MVP honors; by Junior Quarterback Patrick Muth, who threw for two touchdowns and ran for another score; and by Junior running back Eric Sawyer, who caught both of Muth's scoring passes; and

WHEREAS, the unsung heroes of the Tigers' victory were offensive linemen Matt Lussi, Franklin Knuckles, Pete Petroze, Robbie Janning, and Jared Pike, who dominated the line of scrimmage and allowed Tiger runners to rush for 250 yards on 47 carries, an average of over 5 yards per carry; and

WHEREAS, the stout defense of Beechwood, which limited Danville to just 158 total yards while intercepting two passes and recovering two Admiral fumbles, was led by linebackers Mike Morenton, Kevin Spence, and Craig Harms and linemen Jordan McFauls, Evan Reilly, and Josh Carl; and

WHEREAS, Beechwood dominated opponents during the year, losing just one game by a single point to a much larger school and outscoring opponents by an average of over 30 points a game; and

WHEREAS, the Beechwood Tigers were led to the championship by Head Coach Mike Yeagle, who during an amazing 15 year run has compiled a record of 163 wins against only 20 losses and 8 state championships; and

WHEREAS, the talent, perseverance, and dedication of the Beechwood High School Tigers have thrilled football fans not only in Northern Kentucky, but throughout the Commonwealth, and the results of their efforts will be written indelibly in the annals of football history in the Bluegrass State;

NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. The members of this body, both individually and collectively, do offer their heartiest congratulations to the Beechwood High School Tigers football team, head coach Mike Yeagle and his staff, and Principal Glen Miller on winning the 2004 KHSAA Class A football Championship, and wish the school, coaches, and players continued success in future endeavors.
