A CHECKLIST OF WHAT YOU MUST BRING WITH YOU TO INTERVIEW

  Official photo identity e.g. either passport or driving licence. If you do not have this a birth certificate is acceptable. If you have had a change of name we also need to see a marriage certificate, decree absolute, change of name by deed poll or other official documentation

  Completed Qualifications and Identification Audit form

  One passport-sized photograph, showing a recent resemblance of yourself for our records (please print your name, course applied for and date of birth on the back)

Please note you may be refused an interview if you do not bring all of the above items with you and it may not always be possible to arrange another interview date. If on the day of the interview circumstances arise which may affect your performance, please advise staff immediately and they will try to arrange another interview for you.

WHAT TO EXPECT AT THE INTERVIEW

You will be in invited to attend either a morning or afternoon interview session. Morning interviews take place from 8.30 am – 13:15pm and afternoon interviews take place from 13:15pm – 17:00pm. Candidates will be allocated an individual interview time at the beginning of the session and whilst we do our utmost to accommodate travelling times etc, we cannot guarantee specific times. If you have any concerns please inform the staff on arrival in the morning.

The interview day will consist of a short presentation delivered by a member of the academic staff. This will provide you with an overview of the course and facilities at Teesside University Campuses. Following this you will have an opportunity to ask questions. You will be given a specific time to arrive and a venue for your interview.

The mini multiple interviews

These will comprise of a series of three short interview stations (10 minutes per station). At each station you will explore two questions/scenarios. Your responses to the scenario will be measured against the following criteria which are mapped against, the NHS Constitutional Values and the 6 C’s (NHS England 2016):

·  Ability to communicate effectively in a verbal manner

·  Ability to communicate effectively in a non-verbal manner

·  Knowledge of chosen profession/career

·  An appreciation of some of the demands you may encounter in the chosen profession

·  Enthusiasm for the course/profession

·  A future plan in this specialism

·  The potential to become a professional and ability to demonstrate the values and attitudes which complement those within the NHS Constitution (Department of Health 2015) which are:

·  Working together for patients

·  Respect and dignity

·  Commitment to quality of care

·  Compassion

·  Improving lives

·  Everyone counts

The 6 C’s are:

References

We require one academic and one employer reference. You will be provided with a Referee Details form to complete if you are successfully offered a place on the course.

Please note, if you have previously studied on a pre-registration nursing course we will require a reference from an academic member of staff on the course team such as your field/pathway leader.

Pre Confirmation of Offer – Health Questionnaire (University Process)

If you are successfully offered a place on the course and firmly accept this offer, you will be emailed a link to complete your Health Questionnaire. You will then be invited to a health assessment appointment.

Normally you will be offered one appointment only. If you cannot attend the appointment on the date given you must contact the Occupational Health Department on 01642 228482 to rearrange the date. This rearrangement must be made before the original appointment is due to take place or this will be considered as non-attendance. Please be aware if you do not attend the appointment you will be liable to pay the rearranged appointment fee. If you do not complete the health assessment, we will withdraw the offer.

Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS)

As from the 1st December 2012 the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) and the Independent Safeguarding Authority (ISA) have merged and are now called the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). CRB checks are now called DBS checks.

This course is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. Consequently, it is a condition of the course that you must disclose any convictions, cautions, reprimands or final warnings which would not be filtered in line with current guidance as defined by the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (as amended in 2013) by SI 2013 1198). If an offer of a place is made we will require an enhanced DBS disclosure prior to commencing the course. The charge for this is £44.00 payable to Teesside University. As part of the offer you are also required to join the DBS Update Service, the charge for this is £13.00 per year payable to the DBS.

You should be aware that on completion of the course, you are required to declare any convictions, cautions or allegations to the relevant Professional Body prior to becoming registered.

WHAT TO EXPECT AFTER THE INTERVIEW

All UCAS applicants will receive their decision via UCAS Track. Offers will normally be made by the 31st March 2018.

If you are successfully offered a place after interview, you will be invited to attend the University for an Applicant Day. You will be required to complete to complete additional paperwork e.g. Course Requirements form and Referee Details Form, which will be sent to you prior to this event. You will also be required to provide your original educational certificates as proof of eligibility for this course.

All offers will be subject to satisfactory references, satisfactory DBS & completed health assessment process in addition to any other relevant academic or non-academic conditions.

Due to the limited number of places available, not everyone will be successful. If we are unable to make you an offer for your chosen course, the University may wish to give you the opportunity of taking up an offer of a course within another School and therefore you may be contacted with alternative courses for you to consider. Please note that if you are made an offer it may not be for the intake that you applied for.
