Candidates for 2013 CSHP Board

President Elect: Sarah Arnold, PharmD

Dr. Arnold completed her doctor of pharmacy at Northeastern University in Boston MA in 2005. In 2006,she completed a Pharmacy Specialty Residency in Pediatrics at Boston Children's Hospital. Dr. Arnold moved back to CT in 2006 and began workas a pediatric clinical pharmacist at Yale New Haven Hospital.She was the Pediatric Clinical Specialistat Yale where her work focused on medication safety in this population. In 2010 Dr. Arnold became the Intravenous Admixture Supervisor for the entire pharmacy. She is currently the manager of Pediatrics and Intravenous Admixture Services where she oversees the pediatric clinical specialist, pediatric and operational pharmacists, and pharmacy technicians in IV operations. In 2010, Dr. Arnold served as CSHP’s Membership Committee Chairperson, in 2011 as the junior board member and in 2012 as the senior board member.

Senior Board Member: Eric M. Tichy, PharmD, BCPS

Dr Tichy is a graduate of the University of Connecticut School of Pharmacy and trained in pharmacy practice at Yale-New Haven Hospital. He is board-certified in pharmacotherapy. He holds adjunct faculty appointments from the University of Connecticut School of Pharmacy and Duquesne University Mylan School of Pharmacy. He is also a member of the heart, kidney, and liver transplant teams at Yale-New Haven Transplantation Center (YNHTC) and serves as Director of the YNHTC Transplant Pharmacy Residency.

Most pertinent to his nomination for Senior Board Member of the Connecticut Society of Health-System Pharmacy is his high level of service to the CSHP.

Dr Tichy is passionate about advancing pharmacy practice in the field of transplantation and has focused efforts on the training and education of new practitioners from multiple disciplines. Moreover, his involvement in leadership roles, both locally and nationally, leave him well equipped to help lead CSHP in efforts to address existing practice gaps and develop innovative educational programs relevant to pharmacy practice.

Junior Board Member: Natalie Dearing, PharmD

Dr. Dearing graduated in 2004 from George Mason University with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. In 2009, she graduated from Howard University College of Pharmacy, Nursing, and Allied Health Sciences with a Doctor of Pharmacy degree. The following year, Dr. Dearing completed a PGY-1 residency with a focus in ambulatory care from Lifetime Health Medical Group and the State University of New York, University at Buffalo School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. In 2011, she became a Board Certified Ambulatory Care Pharmacist. Dr. Dearing was a founding faculty member for the University of Saint Joseph School of Pharmacy, and is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pharmacy Practice and Administration. Her clinical practice site is at the Adult Primary Care Clinic at Yale-New Haven Hospital, where she provides medication therapy management (MTM) for diabetes, hypertension, chronic heart failure, anticoagulation, and dyslipidemia. For the past two years Dr. Dearing has been very active in CSHP. She has organized two CE programs at the University of Saint Joseph, served as Newspaper editor, and CSHP ambassador.

Secretary: Mojdeh Heavner, PharmD, BCPS

Dr. Heavner is currently a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist in the Medical Intensive Care Unit at Yale-New Haven Hospital (YNHH). She is also currently a Co-Director of the PGY-2 Specialty Residency in Critical Care at YNHH. She precepts students from the University of Connecticut, University of Albany, and Creighton University. She graduated in 2004 from the University of Maryland, College Park with a Bachelor of Science in Physiology & Neurobiology. In 2008, she obtained her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Maryland, Baltimore, followed by a PGY-1 Pharmacy Practice Residency at Yale-New Haven Hospital from 2008-2009. From 2009-2010, Dr. Heavner completed a PGY-2 Specialty Residency in Critical Care & Solid Organ Transplant, and also became a Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist. She has been a member of the Connecticut Society of Health System Pharmacy since 2008, served as Membership Committee Co-Chair in 2010-2011, is currently finishing out a term as Secretary.

Treasurer: Jose Luis Scarpa, RPh

Mr. Scarpa is currently Director of Pharmacy at Natchaug Hospital responsible for operations and clinical pharmacy services. He has over 22 years of experience in institutional and community pharmacy settings. He began his career as a staff pharmacist at ECHN, eventually serving as an Assistant Director and Acting Director until 2005. Mr. Scarpa received his B.S. in Pharmacy from the University of Connecticut in 1988 and a Bachelors degree in Chemistry from Western Connecticut State University in 1985. He is an Adjunct Assistant Clinical Professor of the University of Connecticut, has developed a clerkship rotation and has precepted numerous students over the years. He is a previous recipient of the CSHP Pharmacist of the Year Award, has been a member of CSHP since 1990 and the Treasurer for the past two years.
