Melanie Gibson advised that progress was well in hand with UTM/Mississauga Careers Department for their presentation on Careers in 2020. The session would be interactive with parents and teens and focus on personal strengths with activities and discussion. The grant submission was approved and would provide funding for notebooks, snacks and honourariums. To date approximately 85 registrations have been received with a goal of 150 attendees. It was discussed to perhaps tweet or post on instragram, the event as well as include the form with Progress Reports. A synervoice message closer to the date would also be sent. Melanie also indicated she would attend the Parent/Teacher Interview evening and try and get some more registrations.
OTHER BUSINESS:
A suggestion was made to initiate additional assistance for Science and Math at the school by School Council parents.
A concern over the busy crosswalk at Bloor and Tomken was raised following an observation that the signals at this crosswalk do not include a tone signal counting down the time to cross. It was brought up that the signal at Tomken and Runningbrook does have a tone countdown. It was suggested and agreed that this concern should be brought forward to the City for their review and action.
A date for the School Council outing was agreed upon as Monday, October 3 at Orchard Family Restaurant at the corner of Hurontario and King Street at 6pm. Attendance is optional and this gathering is held as a meet and greet.
