Purpose of Job:
To promote the UK as a world leader in education and cultural relations through managing the delivery of successful and high quality Society programmes, including Skills for Social Entrepreneurs and Young Thai IP Law Ambassador Award, to achieve maximum impact with target audiences in Thailand and the East Asia region
To provide administrative support to Programmes Manager, Society
To work with partners in Thailand and the UK to achieve the objectives of the Thailand Country Plan and East Asia Regional Plan.
Context and Environment:
The British Council is the UK’s agency for cultural relations with operations in 110 countries and territories worldwide. Its Head Office is based in London and employs over 7,000 people worldwide and has an annual turnover of +£850m.
The East Asia region comprises 14 countries ranging from developed markets with sophisticated infrastructures ( Australia, Hong Kong, Japan, New Zealand, Singapore, Korea, Taiwan) and developing markets with fledging but growing infrastructure (China, Burma, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam).
In Thailand the British Council has six centres, five centres in Bangkok and one in Chiang Mai. The main office is based in Siam Square. The British Council in Thailand employs over 220 people including over one hundred non-Thais who work as teachers in its teaching centres. The British Council Thailand focuses its work in three areas: the teaching of English and managing one of the largest teaching operations in its global network, Education and Society supporting large scale projects in Education and Thai students studying in the UK and in the Arts and Creative Economy.
The British Council in Thailand changed status in 2012 from a Branch office to become a company limited by shares and is structured using 3 interconnecting companies: BC Thailand Holding Company, made up of BC Operations housing Project, Programmes, Examinations operations, and business support services and BC Language Teaching which forms the Thailand Teaching Business.
The Thailand society team currently consists of one manager and one assistant. The objective of the British Council’s Society work in Thailand is to develop new relationships and partnerships between Thailand and the UK to address social, economic and environmental challenges as well as engage community members to become skilled, motivated, socially responsible and effective citizens. Our contribution towards a more sustainable society is based on 2 innovative programmes; Skills for Social Entrepreneurs and Young Thai IP Law Ambassador Award.

Accountabilities, responsibilities and main duties:
1. / To support the delivery of high quality cultural relations programmes in Society
Duties will include, but are not limited to:
Making and managing logistical arrrangements for events and activities
Representing British Council at events and networking with external contacts as required
Liaising with UK and Thai partners over detailed arrangements for events and activities.
Arranging programmes for visitors
Contributing thoughtfully to the planning of activities, being mindful of corporate strategies and objectives
Responding to all enquiries (phone/ email/ walk-in) about events and/or project activities are responded to in a timely fashion (same day for written and telephone enquiries)
Managing paper and electronic filing of documents/correspondence relevant to events/projects
Maintaining contact lists for project/sector contacts and ensuring they are updated monthly in liaison with corporate contact database manager
Ensuring some knowledge and awareness of our areas of work, and business development, in particular of the arts and creative industries– and taking initiatives to build this awareness where necessary
2. / Monitoring and Evaluation of activities
Support Programmes Manager, Society in evaluating the effectiveness of events and/ or project outcomes to enable the planning and delivery teams to repeat successes or improve the quality of both
Prepare evaluation statistics and record all feedback, ensuring that project data is collected and anaylised promptly and effectively
Input or assist in inputting scorecard results into Project Organiser
Assist Programmes Manager, Society in the collection of data for assesment of reporting purposes
Assist Programmes Manager, Soceity in the production of reports and project-related communications
3. / Financial support
Report to Programmes Manager, Society and Director Programmes on budgets as required
Ensure that relationships with vendors are maintained and payments are processed on time and in accordance with FABS guidelines
Ensure that purchases and financial activity within FABS is in accordance with department planning
