ELECTIVE COURSE DESCRIPTIONS

Full Year Courses (2 semesters)

7th Grade Concert Band / Advanced Band / Jazz Band

This group will perform at various events throughout the year. Members of this group perform as a marching band, concert band and drumline; at festivals, concerts and trips!

Choir

This group will perform at various events throughout the year.

Spanish

Students will learn to speak, read, write and understand Spanish in an active, engaging way. Students who take Spanish as 7th and 8th graders are eligible to enter Spanish 2 when they enter high school and will have a head start preparing for college, the workforce and travel abroad. This class is not for native Spanish speakers.

Tech Exploration(Semester 1)

Students are introduced to a variety of computer programs and applications focusing on Google App's, Digital Story Telling, Website Creation and Photoshop. In addition, students will be working towards understanding what it means to be a Digital Citizen in the 21st century.

Technology Applications(Semester 2)

Students are introduced to the world of digital artistry. From basic animation software to the advanced suite of Adobe applications, students explore how to create digital media. In the Spring time the focus shifts to Photography and Videography production where students learn the fundamentals of staging quality shots and creating short films.

Woodshop I

This course is for anyone looking to gain hands-on woodworking skills. Students learn how to use various machines in the shop while making fun and useful projects. Students wanting to take their skills to a higher level can sign up for woodshop more than once. As students advance through the levels, their independence advances as well.

Peer Mentor

This course is an opportunity to support peers who have moderate to profound disabilities as they learn at school. Peer mentors will learn to use technology in augmentative and assistive communication, some sign language, and about developmental disabilities. This is a great opportunity to learn about yourself and about how persons with special needs can find success.

Fitness and Games

This course combines weight training/conditioning with a variety of games like ultimate Frisbee, dodgeball, survivor, just to name a few. It is a highly active class and students must be ready for fun but also be ready to get in shape.
