Millidgeville North Home & School Association Meeting

In Attendance – Louise Kinney, Debbie Higgins, Tina McGloan, Karen Kennedy, Rachel Dempster, Tish Fulton, Emily English and Michael Whelton

School update - requested that we prepare an Agenda prior to meetings and provide minutes.

Action – Tina to type minutes and we will start having agendas for our meetings.

Parent volunteers – for the lunch program need a schedule also he would like to have more parents volunteering at the school on regular basis, this would be via teacher requests for volunteers throughout the school year.

Action – Tina to contact parents who have volunteered for the lunch program and get them to organize a time to meet with Mike.

Emails from home and school – should go out to all parents this will keep all parents up to date on events etc.

Action – send emails, approved by H&S to Shelly for distribution to all parents. December email update and upcoming events list to be sent out to parents.

Strategic Plan - should be looked for the Home & School

Action – meeting to take place in January 13 at 6:30 to discuss a plan

Mike extended his thanks for the hard work of the home and school committee on the Christmas Parade, Book fair and multiple other activities this year. He also mentioned that the school will be holding meet the teacher prior to the upcoming school year commencing, Home and School will plan to be there.

Upcoming Events Discussion

Romero House Meal – enough to feed 300 people, will ask parents to donate the food as Sobeys only offered a discounted price this year. Soup will be cooked on Tuesday Dec.15. Concerns were raised about Public Health and the temp of the food to be transported. Cookies to be baked on Dec 9 and 10th, Louise to send out an email requesting food donations. A few students will be able to attend this year to help serve and clean up after the meal. This is a middle school event.

Christmas Crafting – Cookie, Craft and Cards – December 12 at 1pm for set up.

Rachel to plan a craft so it’s all elementary art class time. Karen Kennedy to take care of getting the cookies, sprinkles and icing.

All classes grade 3-5 will be in the cafeteria together taking turns at the cookie table and we will have a special visitor before they leave. Karen Kennedy to check in to our visitor’s availability on Friday afternoon.

Past Events

Scholastic Book Fair – raised $1,303 in credit with scholastic bringing our total to $3,158. It was decided to purchase some audio books to be used in the Audio Centre purchased last year, Louise to find. Last year the spring scholastic book fair allowed the home and school to donate half their sales of $1,600 to the Boys and Girls clubs in New Brunswick.

Tina’s dad to make labels for the memorial books the home and school committee have purchased to donate to the library in Mme Arseneau Basques name.
