ChairpersonHlavacek called the April 11th, 2016 meeting of the Florence School Dist. #14-1 board of education to order at 7:01pm. Other board members in attendance were Becking, Paulson, Roe and Schroeder. Others present wereJoAnn Paulson, Bob Reiter, C. Reiter, G. Leighton and S. Sumner (Business Manager).
Motion by Schroeder, second by Roe to approve theagenda. Motion carried.

J. Case, elem lead teacher, reported on Pre-K screening, NESODAK and other field trips, circus tickets, and PACH.
C. Reiter, secondary lead teacher, reported that there is a new 8th grader, testing has begun, JH OI meets, school play, spring conference, FFA convention and gave recognition to Alec Paulson, Bryan Reiter and Callie Mueller for their accomplishments at Region Science Fair.
G. Leighton, supt., reported on track & golf, the ECC Math & Business contest, upcoming mid-terms, that the ’04 bus had died, and that no one will attend Boys & Girls state because of the Washington DC trip schedule conflict.
NTHS & NESC agendaswere reviewed.
The cost of an attenuator in regards to the noise level of the air handler fans and a CO2 sensor both for the new gymwere reviewed. Two quotes fora floor cover for the new gym were presented. No action was taken. The drain cover grate has been installed in the parking lot.

Motion by Becking, second by Schroeder to change the education structure from elementary/secondary to elementary/middle school/secondary. Motion carried.
Motion by Becking, second by Paulson to approve membership in the SDHSAA for 2016-17. Motion carried.
Motion by Roe, second by Becking to authorize the superintendent to employ a Spanish teacher in the range of .3 to .5 FTE. Motion carried.
May school board meeting will be rescheduled in May.
Motion by Roe, second by Schroeder to enter into executive session at 9:23 pm forcontractualand negotiation matters (SDCL 1-25-2.4). Motion carried.
Chair Hlavacek declared the board out of executive session at 9:49 pm. Motion carried.
Motion by Roe, second by Becking to non-renew the contract of Tera McDonnell for the 2016-17 school year. Motion carried.
Motion by Schroeder, second by Becking to issue certified staff contracts based on last years contract pending the new negotiations package and to issue business manager and superintendent’s contracts with salaries to be determined. Motion carried.
Motion by Schroeder, second by Becking to adjourn at 9:52pm. Motion carried.
