Dubai Statistics: More than 98% Support Dubai's EXPO 2020 Bid

Introduction:

Dubai Statistics Center launched an Opinion Poll Study to measure community enthusiasm and support of Dubai's EXPO Bid, in coordination with the Higher Committee of Dubai's EXPO 2020 Bid and Her Excellency Reem Al Hashimy, UAE Minister of State and the Committee's Managing Director. The Survey was launched on 11 November 2013 as the focal point of a campaign called 'We Deserve It' and was distributed to regular sample participants of the Dubai Statistics Center, as well as the broader community through different Social Media channels in coordination with government & private entities across the emirate. Strong, positive responses were received from the UAE and from across the globe. The public retweeted the survey from their personal accounts, through SMSs, and from smartphone devices, resulting in 64,802 respondents. The Opinion Poll Study was carried for 10 days in which responses were received at a rate of more than 6,480.20 daily, 270 hourly or 4.5 responses per minute.

Opinion Poll Study Results:

Survey results demonstrate striking support for and overwhelming belief in Dubai's ability and readiness to host Dubai EXPO 2020. The results are categorized into Emirati and non-Emirati Perceptions. Emirati citizens reflect 56.85% of respondents and the other 43.15% came from non-Emirati citizens. The study covered three main questions, measuring awareness of Dubai’s EXPO 2020 bid, support for Dubai’s bid and perceptions of Dubai’s ability to host EXPO 2020.

Survey results found that Emirati respondents are extremely aware at 98.94%; 99.41% of respondents support Dubai’s EXPO 2020 bid and 99.57% believe that Dubai’s is strong candidate and able to host the World’s EXPO 2020.

While measuring non-Emirati respondents on the same indicators 98.61% are aware, 98.67% support Dubai’s bid and 99.12% believe that Dubai is a strong candidate capable of hosting EXPO 2020. Indicators were measured on country groups as follows:

Word of Appreciation from Dubai Statistics Center

Arif Obaid Al Mehairi, Dubai Statistics Center CEO, stated that the DSC has strongly felt the need to play a part in supporting the UAE Government's bid for EXPO 2020. His Excellency stated that DSC is very grateful for the positive support and reaction of different Government & Private entities, Schools & Universities, as well as Community and Public reaction towards the initiative and would like to take this opportunity to thank all supporters and respondents. He added that the Dubai Statistic Center is very excited to see that the campaign 'We Deserve It' has beenrecognized by many entities and individuals.

Reaction from Expo 2020 Higher Committee

Upon learning of the poll results, Her Excellency Reem al-Hashimy said, "It is sincerely gratifying to learn that the data reinforces the outpouring of support we've seen from across the UAE, and indeed, the world. As the Dubai Statistics Center's campaign 'We Deserve It' has proven, an overwhelming majority of the population surveyed believes that we do indeed deserve to host Expo 2020 in Dubai. Enshallah, we hope the member nations of the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) agree on Wednesday."
