REQUIRED PROJECT:

VOCABULARY JOURNALS: One journal each week, from Oct. 31 - Dec. 16

Not required for the week of Thanksgiving – you can do one for bonus points.

You can also do one extra credit journal for any 5 days between Dec. 19 and Jan. 3.

Select one Spanish vocabulary word each day from your most recent vocabulary list, and define it. Draw a picture representing the word and write a sentence about the picture. You can use English for the words you don’t know in Spanish, but use Spanish for the vocabulary word and any other words that you know.

Maximum Possible: 5 per day plus bonus points for exceptional work.

150 points required: Maximum of 200 points possible with the bonus weeks.

DUE EVERY TUESDAY (Nov. 8 – Dec. 20) FOR THE PREVIOUS WEEK.

NO VOCABULARY JOURNALS WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER JANUARY 5TH!

EXTRA CREDIT PROJECTS:

1. PIÑATA (Limit of 1 piñata per student)

Make a piñata, following the instructions carefully (see handout: “Piñata Project”).

Shortcuts are not acceptable (NO SKIPPING STEPS).

Up to 80 points possible, plus bonus points for exceptional work.

(If two or more students are making a piñata together, make it really great so that your scores will be high after dividing the points; or make one for each student in the group.) (Some of thepiñatas may be used for a class party!)

DUE DECEMBER 12TH. NO CREDIT WILL BE GIVEN AFTER DEC. 12! PLAN AHEAD TO GET IT DONE EARLY! (Several days are needed between each step, so it takes a few weeks to complete.)

2. DAY OF THE DEAD PROGRAM at the Weber County Library Southwest Branch

(1950 West 4800 South Roy) Wednesday, Nov. 2 at 6:00 p.m. Learn about the Day of the Dead,

listen to a story, participate in a game, make candies and/or other crafts, and enjoy some food samples (free). Fill out the form that Mr. Powell has for this activity.

Up to 50 points possible. Part of the score is for telling your class about the activity and showing the craft(s) that you made to your class, during the second week of November.
