POSITION DESCRIPTION

Position:Clinician – Mental Health & ATOD

Reports To:ManagerCounselling & Therapy Services

Responsible for:providing clinical services to adults and children

Location:Canberra & regional areas covered by the program

Classification: SFC ratesLevel 1 or 2 depending on experience

THE AGENCY

CatholicCare Canberra and Goulburn (CatholicCare) is the welfare arm of the Roman Catholic Church and has provided services to the Australian Capital Territory and South Eastern New South Wales since 1957.

Today CatholicCare is one of the ACT’s largest providers, assisting over 6000 people per year across the ACT and its regions, through the provision of quality servicesthat include accommodation, respite, aged care, disability, mental health, youth, drug and alcohol, employment, counselling, migrant support and early intervention services. CatholicCare employs over 250 people across the region.

THE PROGRAM

The Counselling & Therapy Services portfolio provides a range of counselling and education programs. The counselling services will be overseeing an integrated model of counselling within the ACT & NSW.

POSITION PURPOSE AND DESCRIPTION

The key responsibilities for the Mental Health clinician will be to provide therapeutic interventions to children and adults with mental health issues across different programs. Clinicians will be required to work from a CBT and Improving Access to Psychological Therapies approach.

The ATOD Clinician will be providing therapeutic services to young people and adults in an innovative program, within an outreach model.

With the integrated model utilised by CatholicCareCanberrra & Goulburn, clinicians are able to work across different programs, thereby utilising their breadth of skills and providing variety in the work.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide quality therapeutic interventions to clients according to program requirements.
  • Meet targets and KPIs of the individual programs, including conducting pre & post assessments, completing 6 billable hours per day, completing case notes and data entry within the set timeframe for the program.
  • Contribute to the wider counselling team via team meetings, supervision and planning days.
  • Promote CatholicCare and its programs within the community.
  • Work within the ethics and code of conduct of CatholicCare and your professional body.
  • Have knowledge and understanding of the Mental Health standards /
  • Have knowledge and understanding of the current ACT Alcohol Tobacco and Other Drugs Strategy, inclusive of the frameworks, strategies and policies listed in the paper

PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES REQUIRED FOR THIS POSITION

  • Demonstrated understanding of and experience in working with individuals, couples, children and families with complex needs and capacity to relate to vulnerable clients in a sensitive manner.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the ATOD sector

  • Proven organisational skills and the ability to manage time effectively

SELECTION CRITERIA

  • Relevant Tertiary qualifications in Psychology, Social Work,Nursing or Occupational Therapy (plus mental health accreditation endorsing the provision of psychological interventions).
  • Registration with APHRA or Membership with AASW. Provisional registration with APHRA for psychology interns.
  • Counselling Experience working in the mental health sector with adults and children with complex needs.
  • Ability to respond appropriately to crisis situations and to clients presenting with complex issues such as comorbidity and suicide
  • Good verbal and written communication skills, and good time management skills
  • Have an understanding of EEO, Work Safety and confidentiality

For the specialist ATOD positions, the applicant must have tertiary qualifications in Psychology or be an accredited Mental Health Social Worker. Applicants must have specialist ATOD training as well as experience in the ATOD sector.
