BOARD OF EDUCATION - WYNDMERE PUBLIC SCHOOL
SEPTEMBER 8, 2014 - 8:00 P.M.
Buskohl called the meeting to order at 8:02 pm.
Members present: Buskohl, Busche,Foertsch, Johnson, and Manstrom.
Members absent: none.
Others in attendance: Chris Swenson, Scott Strenge, David Hanson, Janice Illies, Jennifer Manstrom and Nancy Phalen. Also in attendance were Sam Goerger, Colette Barton, Jeanne Pratt, Andrea Haugen and 23 other visitors.
Motion by Busche to approve 08-11-14 minutes. Seconded by Foertsch. Roll call vote all members voted yes.
Motion by Manstromto approve the agenda. Seconded by Johnson. Roll call vote all members voted yes.
Motion by Foertschto approve the financial report. Seconded by Busche. Roll call vote all members voted yes.
Motion by Manstromto pay the September bills in the amount of $91,619.78and the August payroll in the amount of $61,722.79. Seconded by Johnson. Roll call vote all members voted yes.
Old business:none.
Comments: Coaches to keep up the hard work.
Public Comments: Samantha Goerger, Colette Barton, Andrea Haugen and Jeanne Pratt addressed the board regarding the correspondence course policy.
Correspondence: Letter received from 20 Wyndmere teachers regarding the correspondence course policy.
Manstrom presented the Vocational Center report: Kraig Steinhoff was named the NDACTE Administrator of the Year and Caitlin Holm was named the Outstanding New CTE Teacher in Ag Education. The vo-tech house will be built on-site this year. Lidgerwood is building a greenhouse and Wyndmere FFA received $5000 from Pioneer.
Building Committee report: Reviewed Ottertail heating report. The Son’s of the Legion are working on resurfacing the softball field. Looking at fundraising and grants to replace or repair softball field fencing.
Transportation Committee report: Reviewed fuel usage report.Committee to set up a meeting.
Education Foundation report: Reviewed financial report.
Hanson presented the Elementary Principal/Technology report: Enrollment update; Elementary open house was held on 08-25-14 and 70% of parents attended; STAR testing has been completed in reading and math for grades K-6 and reports have been sent home to parents. Still waiting on Red River Communications for a cable TV contract.
Strenge presented the High school principal’s/A.D. report: 25 Reasons why we are proud of WPS; Congratulations to Jordyn Hetland on being named September Student of the Month; two new high school students; Homeroom groups have been set up to help build better relationships in school; Homecoming Coronation is Friday at 2 pm; Homecoming candidates are Brian Schmit Nick Foertsch, Austin Rhody, Mikayla Mellem, Emily Lothspeich and Linda Suarez; Drama starts next week, FB & VB update; NHS raised over $300 for Cameren Nelson.
Motion by Foertsch to adopt policy GACA – Correspondence Courses on 2nd reading. Seconded by Busche. Roll call vote all members voted yes.
Motion by Manstrom to approvethe following policies on 1st reading.
AAC – Nondiscrimination and Anti-Harassment
FDD – Education of Pregnant and Parenting Students
DDA – Sick Leave
Seconded by Foertsch. Roll call vote all members voted yes.
Reviewed investment sheet.
Mill levy discussion. Open meeting to approve mill levy set for September 22, 2014, at 8 pm.
School Board convention is October 25-26. No one will be attending at this time.
Motion by Busche to approve the LEA Annual Compliance Report and the School Annual Compliance Report. Seconded by Johnson. Roll call vote all members voted yes.
Reviewed 4 bids for lawn mowers. Motion by Manstrom to approve purchase of 2013 mower for $25,200 with trade of $15,200, for a cost of $10,000. Seconded by Johnson. Roll call vote all members voted yes.
Meeting recessed at 9:15 pm.
Special Board Meeting – Mill Levy Approval scheduled for September 22, 2014, at 8 pm.
The next regular meeting is scheduled for October13, 2014, at 8:00 p.m.
