Re:Invitation to Teach for OLLIFall 2016– COURSEPROPOSALS ARE DUE March15, 2016

We are planning our fall OLLI program and are extending to youan invitation to teach. We are grateful for our instructors, and thank you for being or for considering to be an OLLI instructor. Please read the updated guidelines below to help you better prepare for your course(s).

Instructor Volunteerism

One of the Osher Foundation’s expectations for the institutes they support is the donation of time by instructors. All of the club leaders are volunteers, and a number of our instructors donate their teaching skills for one or more courses, workshops or interest groups. Your contributed time during A Taste of OLLI counts toward our volunteerism goals. All instructors receive complimentary membership (with all benefits) if they volunteer their time leading a class or club (or both). However, under the new guidelines, those who choose to receive compensation for instruction will be required to pay their $20 OLLI membership each semester. The membership fee is due by the start of the semester.

Fall 2016 Course Planning

The OLLIfallterm is 13 weeks, beginningMonday, Sept. 19, through Friday, Dec. 16. There will be no classes Wednesday, Nov. 23, through Friday, Nov. 25, due to the Thanksgiving holiday.

OLLI programs will be offered at all four locations: Conway (Coastal Science Center and Horry County Museum) at 301 Allied Drive; Georgetown Education Center at 909 Front St.; Litchfield Education Center (Litchfield Landing)at 14427 Ocean Highway; and Myrtle Beach Education Center at 900 79th Ave. N.

The fall semester will run Mondays through Fridays, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.There will be the opportunity for night classes only as noted: Conway: Monday through Friday; Litchfield: Tuesday; Myrtle Beach: Thursday. When choosing what days and times you wish to teach, please provide us exact days, dates and times.

The number of students, minimum and maximum, is assigned by the assistant director. The decision is based on several criteria, including room capacity and covering course costs. There is a place on the attached form for you to suggest the maximum number of students you wish to have in your course(s), as well as a space for comments. In this space, please explain your reasons for the maximum number of students.Your desire will be noted and considered.

A Taste of OLLI

We cannot emphasize enough how important your participation in this overview day is. As an introduction to each semester, OLLI hosts ATaste of OLLI for current and potential participants. This has been a huge success, smoothing the registration process and giving teachers the opportunity to promote their course(s). A Taste of OLLI Fall2016is scheduled as follows:Tuesday, Sept. 6, at the Georgetown Education Center; Thursday, Sept. 8, at Conway; Tuesday, Sept. 13, at the Myrtle Beach Education Center and Thursday, Sept.15, at the Litchfield Education Center.

A Taste of OLLI concentrates attendance and permits OLLI staff to focus resources at each center. An OLLI volunteer member will deliver an opening welcome at each center, followed by short (15-minute) sessions for instructor-led courseoverviews, demonstrations and discussions. Please consider this opportunity to be your personal marketing tool for generating enrollment in your course. If you plan to offer a free single- or multi-session course, consider scheduling it during the first weeks of the semester, since this will further market your longer courses. The A Taste of OLLI schedule will be included in the catalog (inside the back cover). Please keep in mind that it isimpossible to add to the hard copy schedule once printed – that is true of both ATaste of OLLI and the semester offerings.
