Dear Parent/Guardian,

Please find enclosed a timetable of Active Schools cluster based clubs and activities on offer this term. If your child is interested in attending any of these, complete and return the attached slip along with any payment to the following address: FAO Gareth Hill, Active Schools Coordinator, Dunbar Primary School, John Muir Campus, Lammermuir Cresent, Dunbar EH42 1DG by the relevant closing date. Cheques should be made payable to East Lothian Council and separate cheques should be written for each class so as funds can be cancelled easily if your child does not get a place in a class. Where places have not been allocated cheques will be destroyed. Any classes paid for with cash must be for the exact amount as we are unable to hold any petty cash money. Any refunds will be raised through East Lothian Council’s Finance Department and can take up to 28 days to process.

Please note that all classes are limited and on a first come first served basis and you will only be contacted if your child does NOT have a place. Also note that this contact may be made by text / email message so provide a mobile number /email address that is used regularly. A discount is available to Leisure Pass Plus (LPP) card holders when a valid code and date is entered on the return slip. Costs for valid LPP holders are detailed in the “Class and Activity Information” section. Further details on specific classes are available in the section “Class and Activity Information”. For all classes it is the parent/guardians responsibility to make sure their child gets to and from the class safely and all children primary 3 and under must be collected. Please ensure your child wears appropriate footwear and clothing and brings drinking water to the session.

Other classes will be on offer throughout the year on either an individual school or cluster basis so look out for letters offering new opportunities. In addition to the cluster programme detailed in this letter Active School’s aims to offer FREE local activity for children at their local school and to do this we rely on dedicated parent and community volunteers i.e. YOU! With your help we can provide more opportunities for more pupils to get active. Parents choose the day and time that suits them best and usually the commitment is 1 hour a week for a block of 6 weeks. We offer FREE training opportunities and support to give you the skills to deliver successful after school clubs. Examples of activities that could exist at your school are Funky Fun (imaginative themed games for P1 & 2), Midi Kickers (football based skills and games designed to suit ages 3-7 years), Girls on the Go! (Learn how to develop sessions to encourage young girls in P5-7 to become more active), Junior jogscotland (fun running based games for P3+), Funky Fitness (games, challenges and fun for P3-4) and The Funky Factor (alternative activities to encourage a positive attitude to health and fitness for P5-7). Courses are fun and to sign up you don’t need to be an athlete or have any experience as a coach or leader. Class and Activity Information

Glasgow 2014 Active All stars – With the commonwealth games coming to Glasgow in 2014 this new exciting club with give children the opportunity to participate in the sports that will take place in the commonwealth games. Your child will get the opportunity to participate in Rugby, Hockey, Badminton and many athletic disciplines and many more sports LPP cost £3

Funky MOves –Dunbar Dance are introducing Funky Moves to children. This Class is open to everyone and teaches the children the very latest Dance moves and techniques to all the latest dance and chart hit songs in a fun, enjoyable and safe environment. Funky Moves is a great new activity. THIS CLASS IS FOR GIRLS and BOYS. Leisure Pass Plus cost for this class is £6 (valid code and expiry date required).

Cheerleading - High-flying stunts, Dancing, Gymnastics, Pom-poms and Cheer!

Be part of this sparkling sport that gets you out of the house and into the air. By making friends and working as a team, you can become a cheerleader! Classes focus on the basics of cheerleading in a fun and friendly environment bringing routines together. Suitable for all. Leisure Pass Plus cost is £10 (valid code and expiry date required

Basketball Club (New) – Basketball Club has been taken over by Active Schools and will work with Dunbar Dragons Basketball Club to produce High quality basketball sessions. The club play in Junior Jam league and children can sign up at by submitting the form back to Active Schools coordinator

Tennis – This session is run by a qualified coach from Dunbar Tennis Club. Learn the basic skills to play tennis in a safe and fun environment. Children should wear suitable sport clothing and bring a drink. Leisure Pass Plus cost is £10 (Valid code and expiry date required)

Trampolining –These “jump starters” classes are run as a satellite club of the City of Edinburgh Trampoline Club with all coaches coming from this club. It is important that children taking part in these classesdo not wear clothing that has buttons, zips or pockets that could get caught in the trampoline. Children who wear such clothing will not be permitted to take part in the class. It should also be noted that children must wear socks whilst on the trampoline and long hair should be tied back. The program is running for 7 weeks this term Leisure Pass Plus cost for this class is £24

Cricket – Dunbar Cricket club are working with Active Schools to provide new sessions for children age P4-7. Children will have the opportunity to learn new skills and be introduced to a wonderful sport in cricket

Racketball and Squash - described by Forbes business magazine as the "healthiest sport". Pupils from P5 to S6 can come down to the squash courts at Hallhill to experience these fantastic sports. Monday evenings 6 - 7.30pm, £1 per session. Organised by Dunbar Squash club and run by a qualified coach. Children should wear suitable clothing and especially trainers with non-marking soles."

Midi Kickers P1-P3

The Aim of Midi Kickers is to provide children with a positive experience of football and physical activity through structured, cooperative and competitive play in an environment that encourages the use of imagination and active learning.

At present East Lothian Schools are looking to develop Primary Team Sports (PTS). Primary Team Sports (PTS) aim is to offer the opportunity for primary school children to regularly participate in weekly training and frequent fixtures/events throughout the academic year in Rugby, Hockey, and Basketball.

We need coaches/ volunteers to come and take these teams for their school. Continual support will be provided by East Lothian Council’s Development Officer and/or Gareth Hill Active Schools Coordinator. There will also be opportunities for further training and development.
